Abstract

According to one embodiment, a display device includes an insulating substrate, a thin-film transistor including a semiconductor layer formed on a layer above the insulating substrate, a gate electrode which at least partly overlaps the semiconductor layer, and a first electrode and a second electrode which are electrically connected to the semiconductor layer, and a light shielding layer formed between the thin-film transistor and the insulating substrate to at least partly overlap the semiconductor layer, the light shielding layer electrically connected to the gate electrode.

Claims (21)

1. A display device comprising:

an insulating substrate;

a thin-film transistor including a semiconductor layer formed on a layer above the insulating substrate, a gate electrode which at least partly overlaps the semiconductor layer, and a first electrode and a second electrode which are electrically connected to the semiconductor layer;

a light shielding layer formed between the thin-film transistor and the insulating substrate to at least partly overlap the semiconductor layer, the light shielding layer electrically connected to the gate electrode;

a first insulating film covering the light shielding layer;

a second insulating film covering the gate electrode; and

a connection electrode passing through a first contact hole pierced through the first insulating film and the second insulating film, the connection electrode connecting the gate electrode and the light shielding layer, wherein

the connection electrode contacts an upper surface and a side surface of the gate electrode.

2. The display device of claim 1 , wherein the light shielding layer includes a projection projecting from an area opposed to the gate electrode, and the connection electrode contacts an upper surface of the projection.

3. The display device of claim 2 , wherein the projection projects in a second direction which is orthogonal to a longitudinal direction of the semiconductor layer.

4. The display device of claim 1 , wherein the semiconductor layer is formed of an oxide semiconductor.

5. A display device comprising:

an insulating substrate;

a thin-film transistor including a semiconductor layer formed on a layer above the insulating substrate, a gate electrode which is formed on a layer above the semiconductor layer and at least partly overlaps the semiconductor layer, and a first electrode and a second electrode which are electrically connected to the semiconductor layer;

a light shielding layer formed between the thin-film transistor and the insulating substrate to at least partly overlap the semiconductor layer, the light shielding layer electrically connected to the gate electrode;

a first insulating film covering the light shielding layer;

a second insulating film covering the gate electrode; and

a connection electrode passing through a first contact hole pierced through the first insulating film and the second insulating film, the connection electrode connecting the gate electrode and the light shielding layer, wherein

the connection electrode contacts an upper surface and a side surface of the gate electrode.

6. The display device of claim 5 , wherein the second insulating film covers the semiconductor layer.

7. The display device of claim 5 , wherein the first electrode is connected to the semiconductor layer through a second contact hole pierced through the first insulating film and the second insulating film, the second electrode is connected to the semiconductor layer through a third contact hole pierced through the first insulating film and the second insulating film, and the first electrode, second electrode, and connection electrode are all formed of the same material.
