System and Method for Providing Confidence Scores in a Persistent Framework
An information handling system includes a plurality of input devices and an authentication engine. Each input device receives credential information and generates associated authentication information based upon the credential information. The authentication engine receives the authentication information from the plurality of input devices and provides a confidence status based upon the authentication information, wherein the confidence status includes more than two confidence levels, and wherein when a first input device of the plurality of input devices receives first credential information, the authentication engine increases the confidence status from a first confidence level to a second confidence level.
1 . An information handling system, comprising:
a plurality of input devices, wherein each input device receives credential information and generates associated authentication information based upon the credential information; and
an authentication engine that receives the authentication information from the input devices and provides a confidence status based upon the authentication information, wherein the confidence status includes more than two confidence levels, and wherein when a first input device of the plurality of input devices receives first credential information, the authentication engine increases the confidence status from a first confidence level to a second confidence level.
2 . The information handling system of claim 1 , wherein, when the first input device receives second credential information, the authentication engine decreases the confidence status from a third confidence level to a fourth confidence level.
3 . The information handling system of claim 1 , wherein, when a second input device of the plurality of input devices receives second credential information, the authentication engine decreases the confidence status from a third confidence level to a fourth confidence level.
4 . The information handling system of claim 1 , wherein the confidence status comprises a confidence score of between 0% and 100%, and a difference between the first confidence level and the second confidence level is less than 100%.
5 . The information handling system of claim 1 , wherein the confidence status comprises a confidence state, and the confidence state includes more than two state levels.
6 . The information handling system of claim 5 , wherein, in increasing the confidence status from the first confidence level to the second confidence level, the authentication engine increases the confidence state from a first state level to a second, adjacent state level.
7 . The information handling system of claim 5 , wherein the confidence state is based upon a confidence score of between 0% and 100%, and each state level is associated with a continuous range of confidence scores.
8 . The information handling system of claim 7 , wherein a percentage difference between the first confidence level to the second confidence level is insufficient to change the confidence state.
9 . The information handling system of claim 7 , wherein a percentage difference between the first confidence level to the second confidence level is sufficient to change the confidence state, but wherein the confidence state is not changed from a first state level to a second state level based upon the first credential information being from the first input device.
10 . A method, comprising:
receiving, from each input device of a plurality of input devices of an information handling system, credential information;
generating, for each input device, associated authentication information based upon the credential information;
receiving, at an authentication engine of the information handling system, the authentication information from the input devices; and
providing a confidence status based upon the authentication information, wherein the confidence status includes more than two confidence levels, and wherein when a first input device of the input devices receives first credential information, the authentication engine increases the confidence status from a first confidence level to a second confidence level.
11 . The method of claim 10 , further comprising:
decreasing, by the authentication engine, the confidence status from a third confidence level to a fourth confidence level when the first input device receives second credential information.
12 . The method of claim 10 , further comprising:
decreasing, by the authentication engine, the confidence status from a third confidence level to a fourth confidence level when a second input device of the plurality of input devices receives second credential information.
13 . The method of claim 10 , wherein the confidence status comprises a confidence score of between 0% and 100%, and a difference between the first confidence level and the second confidence level is less than 100%.
14 . The method of claim 10 , wherein the confidence status comprises a confidence state, and the confidence state includes more than two state levels.
15 . The method of claim 14 , wherein, in increasing the confidence status from the first confidence level to the second confidence level, the method further comprises:
increasing, by the authentication engine, the confidence state from a first state level to a second, adjacent state level.
16 . The method of claim 14 , wherein the confidence state is based upon a confidence score of between 0% and 100%, and each state level is associated with a continuous range of confidence scores.
17 . The method of claim 16 , wherein a percentage difference between the first confidence level to the second confidence level is insufficient to change the confidence state.
18 . The method of claim 16 , wherein a percentage difference between the first confidence level to the second confidence level is sufficient to change the confidence state, but wherein the confidence state is not changed from a first state level to a second state level based upon the first credential information being from the first input device.
19 . A non-transitory computer-readable medium including code for performing a method, the method comprising:
receiving, from each input device of a plurality of input devices, credential information;
generating, for each input device, associated authentication information based upon the credential information;
receiving, at an authentication engine, the authentication information from the input devices; and
providing a confidence status based upon the authentication information, wherein the confidence status includes more than two confidence levels, and wherein when a first input device of the input devices receives first credential information, the authentication engine increases the confidence status from a first confidence level to a second confidence level.
20 . The method of claim 19 , wherein:
the confidence status comprises a confidence state, and the confidence state includes more than two state levels; and
in increasing the confidence status from the first confidence level to the second confidence level, the method further comprises increasing, by the authentication engine, the confidence state from a first state level to a second, adjacent state level.
