Abstract

A server with a tile construction module has instructions executed by a processor to collect communication threads associated with a user. Tiles representative of the communication threads are dynamically configured in accordance with specified policies to form a tile configuration. The tile configuration is supplied to the user.

Claims (41)

1. A server, comprising:

a memory;

a processor coupled to the memory, the processor configured to:

collect communication threads associated with a user, wherein the communication threads form a social media application comprising a conversation tile and a camera tile, wherein the conversation tile includes a text entry that is automatically deleted after a specified viewing period;

dynamically configure the conversation tile and the camera tile in accordance with specified policies to form a tile configuration, wherein the tile configuration includes at least one image capture modality tile for activating a device camera to capture an image or video; and

supply the tile configuration to a mobile device associated with the user.

2. The server of claim 1 wherein the communication threads comprise a plurality of conversation tiles and a plurality of camera tiles, and

wherein the specified policies include a parameter to specify a distribution of conversation tiles and camera tiles in proportion to a respective number of conversation tiles and camera tiles associated with the user.

3. The server of claim 1 wherein the communication threads comprise a plurality of conversation tiles and a plurality of camera tiles, and wherein the specified policies include a threshold minimum of conversation tiles and a threshold minimum of camera tiles.

4. The server of claim 1 wherein the specified policies include a parameter to include an application setting tile.

5. The server of claim 1 wherein a tile configuration is updated in response to a screen swipe.

6. The server of claim 1 , wherein the text entry is automatically deleted after a specified viewing period unless a user overrides automatic deletion by applying a gesture to the text entry.

7. A server, comprising:

a memory;

a processor coupled to the memory, the processor configured to:

collect communication threads associated with a user, wherein the communication threads form a social media application comprising text conversation tiles and camera tiles, wherein the text conversation tiles and camera tiles are automatically deleted after a specified viewing period;

dynamically configure the text conversation tiles and the camera tiles in accordance with specified policies to form a tile configuration, wherein the tile configuration includes at least one image capture modality tile for activating a device camera to capture an image or video, a plurality of text conversation tiles in a first group separate from a plurality of camera tiles in a second group; and

supply the tile configuration to a client device associated with the user.

8. The server of claim 7 wherein the specified policies include a parameter to specify a distribution of conversation tiles and camera tiles in proportion to a respective number of conversation tiles and camera tiles associated with the user.

9. The server of claim 7 wherein the specified policies include a threshold minimum of conversation tiles and a threshold minimum of camera tiles.

10. The server of claim 7 wherein the tile configuration is updated in response to a screen swipe.

11. The server of claim 7 , wherein at least one of the conversation tiles includes a text entry that is automatically deleted after a specified viewing period unless a user overrides automatic deletion by applying a gesture to the text entry.

12. The server of claim 7 , wherein the at least one image capture modality tile comprises:

a first image capture modality tile for activating a front-facing device camera to capture the image or the video; and

a second image capture modality tile for activating a rear-facing device camera to capture the image or the video.

13. A system comprising:

the server of claim 7 , and

a client device,

wherein the client device implements an application controller, and

wherein the processor of the server is further configured to coordinate manipulation of the tile configuration with the application controller implemented by the client device.

14. The system of claim 13 , wherein the application controller monitors signals from a touch controller to coordinate invocation of application component tiles.

15. The system of claim 13 wherein the application controller monitors signals from a touch controller to coordinate reconfiguration of application component tiles.

16. The system of claim 15 wherein the touch controller is responsive to haptic signals applied to a display.

17. The system of claim 13 wherein the application controller processes tile commands.

18. The system of claim 13 , wherein the client device is configured to:

display the tile configuration;

receive first user input selecting the at least one image capture modality tile within the displayed tile configuration;

displaying, in response to receiving the first user input, an image capture interface in conjunction with activating the device camera;

receive, within the image capture interface, second user input for returning to display of the tile configuration; and

display, in response to receiving the second user input, the tile configuration.

19. The system of claim 18 , wherein the second user input comprises a pinch gesture.
