Abstract

In particular embodiments, one or more computer-readable non-transitory storage media embody software that is operable when executed to receive an audio waveform fingerprint and a client-determined location from a client device. The received audio waveform fingerprint may be compared to a database of stored audio waveform fingerprints, each stored audio waveform fingerprint associated with an object in an object database. One or more matching audio waveform fingerprints may be found from a comparison set of audio waveform fingerprints obtained from the audio waveform fingerprint database. Location information associated with a location of the client device may be determined, and the location information may be sent to the client device. The client device may be operable to update the client-determined location based at least in part on the location information.

Claims (64)

1. One or more computer-readable non-transitory storage media embodying software that is operable when executed to:

access a social graph comprising a plurality of nodes and a plurality of edges connecting the nodes, each of the edges between two of the nodes representing a single degree of separation between them;

receive an audio waveform fingerprint from a first client device associated with a first user of a social-networking system, wherein a first node corresponding to the first user is connected to a second node corresponding to a second user by a first edge in the social graph;

compare the received audio waveform fingerprint to a database of stored audio waveform fingerprints, each stored audio waveform fingerprint associated with a media object in an object database;

identify one or more media objects in the object database, wherein each identified media object is associated with a stored audio waveform fingerprint matching the received audio waveform fingerprint;

and

send, to a second client device associated with the second user, content associated with the one of the identified media objects, wherein the sending is based at least in part on:

that the first node corresponding to the first user is connected to the second node corresponding to the second user, and

that the stored audio waveform fingerprint associated with the identified media object matches the audio waveform fingerprint received from the first client device associated with the first user.

2. The media of claim 1 , wherein the software is further operable when executed to:

send content from an identified media object to the first client device.

3. The media of claim 2 , wherein the identified media object is a song and the content from the identified media object comprises information about the song.

4. The media of claim 2 , wherein the identified media object is a video and the content from the identified media object comprises information about the video.

5. The media of claim 1 , wherein the software is further operable when executed to:

modify social-networking information associated with the first user based at least in part on one or more of the identified media objects.

6. The media of claim 5 , wherein the social-networking information associated with the first user comprises:

information displayed in a profile interface associated with the first user;

information associated with one or more social connections of the first user; or

one or more tags associated with the first user.

7. The media of claim 1 , wherein the identifying the media objects in the object database is based at least in part on social factors between the first user and one or more other users of the social-networking system.

8. The media of claim 1 , wherein the identified media objects comprise:

audio content; or

a combination of audio and video content.

9. A system comprising: one or more processors; and a memory coupled to the processors comprising instructions executable by the processors, the processors being operable when executing the instructions to:

access a social graph comprising a plurality of nodes and a plurality of edges connecting the nodes, each of the edges between two of the nodes representing a single degree of separation between them;

receive an audio waveform fingerprint from a first client device associated with a first user of a social-networking system, wherein a first node corresponding to the first user is connected to a second node corresponding to a second user by a first edge in the social graph;

compare the received audio waveform fingerprint to a database of stored audio waveform fingerprints, each stored audio waveform fingerprint associated with a media object in an object database;

identify one or more media objects in the object database, wherein each identified media object is associated with a stored audio waveform fingerprint matching the received audio waveform fingerprint;

and

send, to a second client device associated with the second user, content associated with the one of the identified media objects, wherein the sending is based at least in part on:

that the first node corresponding to the first user is connected to the second node corresponding to the second user, and

that the stored audio waveform fingerprint associated with the identified media object matches the audio waveform fingerprint received from the first client device associated with the first user.

10. The system of claim 9 , wherein the processors are further operable when executing the instructions to:

send content from an identified media object to the first client device.

11. The system of claim 10 , wherein the identified media object is a song and the content from the identified media object comprises information about the song.

12. The system of claim 10 , wherein the identified media object is a video and the content from the identified media object comprises information about the video.

13. The system of claim 9 , wherein the processors are further operable when executing the instructions to:

modify social-networking information associated with the first user based at least in part on one or more of the identified media objects.

14. The system of claim 13 , wherein the social-networking information associated with the first user comprises:

information displayed in a profile interface associated with the first user;

information associated with one or more social connections of the first user; or

one or more tags associated with the first user.

15. The system of claim 9 , wherein the identifying the media objects in the object database is based at least in part on social factors between the first user and one or more other users of the social-networking system.

16. The system of claim 9 , wherein the identified media objects comprise:

audio content; or

a combination of audio and video content.

17. A method, by one or more computing systems, comprising:

accessing a social graph comprising a plurality of nodes and a plurality of edges connecting the nodes, each of the edges between two of the nodes representing a single degree of separation between them;

receiving an audio waveform fingerprint from a first client device associated with a first user of a social-networking system, wherein a first node corresponding to the first user is connected to a second node corresponding to a second user by a first edge in the social graph;

comparing the received audio waveform fingerprint to a database of stored audio waveform fingerprints, each stored audio waveform fingerprint associated with a media object in an object database;

identifying one or more media objects in the object database, wherein each identified media object is associated with a stored audio waveform fingerprint matching the received audio waveform fingerprint;

and

sending, to a second client device associated with the second user, content associated with the one of the identified media objects, wherein the sending is based at least in part on:

that the first node corresponding to the first user is connected to the second node corresponding to the second user, and

that the stored audio waveform fingerprint associated with the identified media object matches the audio waveform fingerprint received from the first client device associated with the first user.

18. The method of claim 17 , further comprising:
