Abstract

A method and apparatus for partially up/downscaling an image encoded on a macroblock basis. The method and apparatus performs operations of: storing the encoded image; creating map data from bitstream of the encoded image to decode at a least one macroblock of the encoded image, creating a shrunken image of a predetermined size based on resolution of a display device, storing the map data and the shrunken image so as to relate with the encoded image; outputting the shrunken image related with the encoded image to be displayed based on a control request received from an input device; determining at least one macroblock to be decoded based on a display area of the shrunken image; partially decoding the encoded image for the determined macroblock using the map data; and outputting to the display device, the image data of the display area of the partially decoded image.

Claims (51)

1. An image display apparatus, comprising:

a screen;

a control section that controls a thumbnail index mode in which a plurality of thumbnails corresponding to a plurality of encoded images are displayed on the screen;

a cache file creation section that creates a cache file including a shrunken image corresponding to the displayed thumbnails as a first cache file creation process, and then

preferentially creates a cache file including a shrunken image corresponding to a first thumbnail within a predetermined range from the displayed thumbnails in the thumbnail index mode as a second cache file creation process; and

a shrunken image output section that displays a shrunken image corresponding to a selected thumbnail based on the cache file while the encoded image corresponding to the selected thumbnail is being decoded.

2. The image display apparatus according to claim 1 ,

wherein the cache file creation section preferentially creates a cache file including a shrunken image corresponding to a second thumbnail adjoining the displayed thumbnails in the thumbnail index mode in the second cache file creation process.

3. The image display apparatus according to claim 2 ,

wherein the cache file creation section further preferentially creates a cache file including a shrunken image corresponding to a thumbnail not adjoining the displayed thumbnails but adjoining the second thumbnail in the second cache file creation process.

4. The image display apparatus according to claim 1 ,

wherein the control section deletes the cache file if the number of the cache files or total sum of data volume of the cache files exceeds a predetermined threshold value.

5. The image display apparatus according to claim 1 ,

wherein the control section determines the cache file to be deleted based on a category to which the encoded image or the shrunken image corresponding to the cache file belongs.

6. The image display apparatus according to claim 1 ,

wherein the control section determines the cache file to be deleted based on creation timestamp of the cache files.

7. The image display apparatus according to claim 1 ,

wherein the control section determines the cache file to be deleted based on a range from the displayed thumbnails in the thumbnail index mode.

8. The image display apparatus according to claim 1 ,

wherein the control section determines the cache file to be deleted based on creation timestamp of the cache files and a range from the displayed thumbnails in the thumbnail index mode, and

the cache file deletion based on the range has higher priority to be performed than the cache file deletion based on the creation timestamp.

9. The image display apparatus according to claim 1 ,

wherein if it is determined that the user is currently operating the device,

the control section does not delete the cache file.

10. The image display apparatus according to claim 1 ,

wherein the selected thumbnail is determined by a user operation.

11. The image display apparatus according to claim 1 , wherein

if it is determined a user is not currently operating the device,

the cache file creation section performs at least one of the first cache file creation process and the second cache file creation process.

12. A processing method for a thumbnail index mode in a device comprising:

displaying a plurality of thumbnails corresponding to a plurality of encoded images on a screen,

creating a cache file including a shrunken image corresponding to the displayed thumbnails as a first cache file creation process, and then

preferentially creating a cache file including a shrunken image corresponding to a first thumbnail within a predetermined range from the displayed thumbnails in the thumbnail index mode as a second cache file creation process; and

displaying a shrunken image corresponding to a selected thumbnail based on the cache file while the encoded image corresponding to the selected thumbnail is being decoded.

13. The processing method according to claim 12 ,

wherein the preferentially creating a cache file includes preferentially creating a cache file including a shrunken image corresponding to a second thumbnail adjoining the displayed thumbnails in the thumbnail index mode in the second cache file creation process.

14. The processing method according to claim 13 , further comprising:

preferentially creating a cache file including a shrunken image corresponding to a second thumbnail not adjoining the displayed thumbnails but adjoining the second thumbnail in the second cache file creation process.

15. The processing method according to claim 12 ,

wherein the selected thumbnail is determined by a user operation.

16. The processing method according to claim 12 , further comprising:

if it is determined a user is not currently operating the device,

performing at least one of the first cache file creation process and the second cache file creation process.

17. The processing method according to claim 12 ,

wherein deleting the cache file if the number of the cache files or total sum of data volume of the cache files exceeds a predetermined threshold value.

18. The processing method according to claim 12 ,

wherein determining the cache file to be deleted based on a category to which the encoded image or the shrunken image corresponding to the cache file belongs.

19. The processing method according to claim 12 ,

wherein determining the cache file to be deleted based on creation timestamp of the cache files.

20. The processing method according to claim 12 ,

wherein determining the cache file to be deleted based on a range from the displayed thumbnails in the thumbnail index mode.
