Abstract

In response to detecting a configured quick response (QR) code change event in a retail environment, a changed dynamic QR code is displayed that includes an encoded new unique value. The changed dynamic QR code is changed from a previously-displayed dynamic QR code and is changed based upon a set of contemporaneous data elements associated with an item displayed in the retail environment.

Claims (56)

1. A method, comprising:

by a processor:

displaying, in response to a detected configured quick response (QR) code change event in a retail environment, a changed dynamic QR code comprising an encoded new unique value changed from a previously-displayed dynamic QR code and changed based upon a set of contemporaneous data elements associated with an item displayed in the retail environment, where the detected configured QR code change event comprises one of a user on-demand push-button event associated with the item displayed in the retail environment, a time-based dynamic QR code encoding rotation event associated with the previously-displayed dynamic QR code, and a user-based consumer device scan count event associated with the previously-displayed dynamic QR code.

2. The method of claim 1 , further comprising the processor:

configuring an authorized number of consumer device scans of the previously-displayed dynamic QR code, where the previously-displayed dynamic QR code comprises a previously-encoded unique value;

tracking a number of detected scans of the previously-displayed dynamic QR code by different consumer devices within the retail environment; and

where the detected configured QR code change event comprises the user-based consumer device scan count event, and comprises the processor determining that the number of detected scans of the previously-displayed dynamic QR code by the different consumer devices results in the configured authorized number of consumer device scans of the previously-displayed dynamic QR code.

3. The method of claim 1 , further comprising the processor:

configuring an authorized time duration for consumer devices to scan the previously-displayed dynamic QR code, where the previously-displayed dynamic QR code comprises a previously-encoded unique value;

tracking an amount of elapsed time during display of the previously-displayed dynamic QR code; and

where the detected configured QR code change event comprises the time-based dynamic QR code encoding rotation event, and comprises the processor determining that the configured authorized time duration for the consumer devices to scan the previously-displayed dynamic QR code has expired.

4. The method of claim 1 , where the set of contemporaneous data elements associated with the item displayed in the retail environment comprises:

data elements selected from a group consisting of a current location of the item displayed in the retail environment, a current temperature at the current location of the item displayed in the retail environment, a current time, a current date, a current scanned-item price, a user identifier of a user, and a device identifier of a consumer device of the user.

5. A method, comprising:

by a processor:

displaying, in response to a detected configured quick response (QR) code change event in a retail environment, a changed dynamic QR code comprising an encoded new unique value changed from a previously-displayed dynamic QR code and changed based upon a set of contemporaneous data elements associated with an item displayed in the retail environment;

detecting, within the retail environment, a scan of the changed dynamic QR code by a first consumer device with an associated user identifier and device identifier;

detecting an attempted use of the scanned changed dynamic QR code; and

determining whether the user identifier and device identifier associated with the first consumer device that scanned the changed dynamic QR code match a user identifier and device identifier associated with the attempted use of the scanned changed dynamic QR code.

6. The method of claim 5 , further comprising the processor:

allowing use of the scanned changed dynamic QR code in response to determining that the user identifier and device identifier associated with the first consumer device that scanned the changed dynamic QR code match the user identifier and device identifier associated with the attempted use of the scanned changed dynamic QR code; and

denying use of the scanned changed dynamic QR code in response to determining that the user identifier and device identifier associated with the first consumer device that scanned the changed dynamic QR code do not match the user identifier and device identifier associated with the attempted use of the scanned changed dynamic QR code.

7. A computer program product, comprising:

a computer readable storage medium having computer readable program code embodied therewith, where the computer readable storage medium is not a transitory signal per se and where the computer readable program code when executed on a computer causes the computer to:

display, in response to a detected configured quick response (QR) code change event in a retail environment, a changed dynamic QR code comprising an encoded new unique value changed from a previously-displayed dynamic QR code and changed based upon a set of contemporaneous data elements associated with an item displayed in the retail environment, where the detected configured QR code change event comprises one of a user on-demand push-button event associated with the item displayed in the retail environment, a time-based dynamic QR code encoding rotation event associated with the previously-displayed dynamic QR code, and a user-based consumer device scan count event associated with the previously-displayed dynamic QR code.

8. The computer program product of claim 7 , where the computer readable program code when executed on the computer further causes the computer to:

configure an authorized number of consumer device scans of the previously-displayed dynamic QR code, where the previously-displayed dynamic QR code comprises a previously-encoded unique value;

track a number of detected scans of the previously-displayed dynamic QR code by different consumer devices within the retail environment; and

where in detecting the configured QR code change event that comprises the user-based consumer device scan count event, the computer readable program code when executed on the computer causes the computer to determine that the number of detected scans of the previously-displayed dynamic QR code by the different consumer devices results in the configured authorized number of consumer device scans of the previously-displayed dynamic QR code.

9. The computer program product of claim 8 , where the computer program product is in the form of a computer system, with the computer program product further comprising:

a processor(s) set structured, programmed, and/or connected to execute the computer readable program code embodied within the computer readable storage medium.

10. The computer program product of claim 7 , where the computer readable program code when executed on the computer further causes the computer to:

configure an authorized time duration for consumer devices to scan the previously-displayed dynamic QR code, where the previously-displayed dynamic QR code comprises a previously-encoded unique value;

track an amount of elapsed time during display of the previously-displayed dynamic QR code; and

where, in detecting the configured QR code change event that comprises the time-based dynamic QR code encoding rotation event, the computer readable program code when executed on the computer causes the computer to determine that the configured authorized time duration for the consumer devices to scan the previously-displayed dynamic QR code has expired.

11. The computer program product of claim 10 , where the computer program product is in the form of a computer system, with the computer program product further comprising:

a processor(s) set structured, programmed, and/or connected to execute the computer readable program code embodied within the computer readable storage medium.

12. The computer program product of claim 7 , where the set of contemporaneous data elements associated with the item displayed in the retail environment comprises:

data elements selected from a group consisting of a current location of the item displayed in the retail environment, a current temperature at the current location of the item displayed in the retail environment, a current time, a current date, a current scanned-item price, a user identifier of a user, and a device identifier of a consumer device of the user.

13. The computer program product of claim 12 , where the computer program product is in the form of a computer system, with the computer program product further comprising:

a processor(s) set structured, programmed, and/or connected to execute the computer readable program code embodied within the computer readable storage medium.

14. The computer program product of claim 7 , where the computer program product is in the form of a computer system, with the computer program product further comprising:

a processor(s) set structured, programmed, and/or connected to execute the computer readable program code embodied within the computer readable storage medium.

15. A computer program product, comprising:

a computer readable storage medium having computer readable program code embodied therewith, where the computer readable storage medium is not a transitory signal per se and where the computer readable program code when executed on a computer causes the computer to:

display, in response to a detected configured quick response (QR) code change event in a retail environment, a changed dynamic QR code comprising an encoded new unique value changed from a previously-displayed dynamic QR code and changed based upon a set of contemporaneous data elements associated with an item displayed in the retail environment;

detect, within the retail environment, a scan of the changed dynamic QR code by a first consumer device with an associated user identifier and device identifier;

detect an attempted use of the scanned changed dynamic QR code; and

determine whether the user identifier and device identifier associated with the first consumer device that scanned the changed dynamic QR code match a user identifier and device identifier associated with the attempted use of the scanned changed dynamic QR code.

16. The computer program product of claim 15 , where the computer readable program code when executed on the computer further causes the computer to:

allow use of the scanned changed dynamic QR code in response to determining that the user identifier and device identifier associated with the first consumer device that scanned the changed dynamic QR code match the user identifier and device identifier associated with the attempted use of the scanned changed dynamic QR code; and

deny use of the scanned changed dynamic QR code in response to determining that the user identifier and device identifier associated with the first consumer device that scanned the changed dynamic QR code do not match the user identifier and device identifier associated with the attempted use of the scanned changed dynamic QR code.

17. The computer program product of claim 16 , where the computer program product is in the form of a computer system, with the computer program product further comprising:

a processor(s) set structured, programmed, and/or connected to execute the computer readable program code embodied within the computer readable storage medium.

18. The computer program product of claim 15 , where the computer program product is in the form of a computer system, with the computer program product further comprising:

a processor(s) set structured, programmed, and/or connected to execute the computer readable program code embodied within the computer readable storage medium.
