Abstract

A method of identifying and communicating career path options for presentation to a member of a social networking system are disclosed. A selection of a job title from a member of a social networking system is received. Additional members of the social networking system having the job title are identified. A career path for the member is identified based on an analysis of a profile corresponding to the member in comparison to profiles corresponding to the additional members. Information pertaining to the career path may be communicated for presentation to the member in a user interface.

communicating information pertaining to the career path for presentation to the member in a user interface.

2 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising selecting the job title for inclusion in a list of job titles that is communicated for presentation to the user, the selecting based on an analysis of similarities between content items specified in a profile corresponding to the member and content items specified in the profiles corresponding to the additional members, and wherein the selection of the job title is from the list of job titles.

The system of claim 8 , the one or more modules further configured to select the job title for inclusion in a list of job titles to communicate for presentation to the user, the selection based on an analysis of similarities between content items specified in a profile corresponding to the member and content items specified in the profiles corresponding to the additional members, and wherein the selection of the job title is from the list of job titles.

10 . The system of claim 8 , wherein the additional members are a subset of members of the social networking system having the job title, the subset selected based on similarities between content items specified in a profile corresponding to the member and content items specified in the profiles corresponding to the additional members.

11 . The system of claim 8 , wherein the analysis includes identifying a career gap between the member and the additional members.

17 . The non-transitory computer-readable storage medium of claim 15 , wherein the additional members are a subset of members of the social networking system having the job title, the subset selected based on similarities between content items specified in a profile corresponding to the member and content items specified in the profiles corresponding to the additional members.

18 . The non-transitory computer-readable storage medium of claim 15 , wherein the analysis includes identifying a career gap between the member and the additional members.

19 . The non-transitory computer-readable storage medium of claim 18 , wherein the career gap includes at least one of an educational gap, a skills gap, or an experience gap.
