Abstract

The subject disclosure describes monitoring when a headset is in communication with a mobile communication device, detecting the headset, comparing a name of a caller and a telephone number of the caller against a list of names and telephone numbers previously stored in a memory, determining that the name of the caller or the telephone number of the caller matches one of the names and telephone numbers in the list, determining that the one of the names and telephone numbers is associated with a pre-recorded message that the user previously recorded and stored in the memory, retrieving the pre-recorded message, and performing a text-to-speech conversion on the name and telephone number of the caller to generate a synthesized speech signal spoken text message and sending the synthesized speech signal and the pre-recorded message to the headset. Other embodiments are disclosed.

Claims (56)

1. A device, comprising:

a processor; and

a memory that stores executable instructions that, when executed by the processor, facilitate performance of operations, comprising:

receiving a text message;

obtaining identification information associated with the text message;

receiving an activation signal indicating that an audio device is in communication with the processor via a wireless connection;

responsive to receiving the activation signal:

comparing contact information with the identification information,

wherein the contact information is stored in the memory;

determining that the identification information is associated with an entry in the memory based on the comparing, in accordance with a match with the contact information in the entry;

retrieving the matching contact information;

converting the matching contact information into a first synthesized speech signal;

converting the text message into a second synthesized speech signal; and

providing the first synthesized speech signal and the second synthesized speech signal via the wireless connection to the audio device for audible presentation.

2. The device of claim 1 , wherein a recorded message is associated with the entry in the memory, and wherein the operations further comprise providing the recorded message to the audio device for audible presentation.

3. The device of claim 1 , wherein the determining is in accordance with an inexact match with the contact information in the entry, the match being inexact in accordance with user preferences.

4. The device of claim 1 , wherein the audio device comprises a headset, and wherein the device is a mobile device.

5. The device of claim 4 , wherein the headset is in physical contact with a user of the device, and the device is not in physical contact with the user.

6. The device of claim 1 , wherein a message is stored in the memory and associated with the entry, and wherein the operations further comprise:

converting the stored message into a third synthesized speech signal; and

providing the third synthesized speech signal to the audio device.

7. The device of claim 1 , wherein the text message is an instant message, and wherein the identification information comprises a name of a sender of the instant message.

8. The device of claim 1 , wherein the audio device is part of a hands-free communication system, and wherein the incoming communication is an instant message.

9. The device of claim 8 , wherein the audio device comprises an earpiece.

10. A machine-readable storage medium comprising executable instructions that, when executed by a processor, facilitate performance of operations comprising:

receiving an incoming communication;

extracting identification information associated with the incoming communication;

receiving an activation signal indicating that an audio device is in communication with the processor via a wireless connection;

responsive to receiving the activation signal:

comparing contact information with the identification information associated with the incoming communication, wherein the contact information is stored in a memory, the memory comprising a portion of the storage medium;

determining that the identification information is associated with an entry in the memory based on the comparing, in accordance with a match with the contact information in the entry;

converting the matching contact information into a first synthesized speech signal;

converting the incoming communication into a second synthesized speech signal; and

providing the first synthesized speech signal and the second synthesized speech signal via the wireless connection to the audio device for audible presentation.

11. The machine-readable storage medium of claim 10 , wherein the incoming communication comprises a text message.

12. The machine-readable storage medium of claim 10 , wherein the operations further comprise monitoring whether the audio device is in communication with the processor.

13. The machine-readable storage medium of claim 10 , wherein the audio device comprises a headset, and wherein the device is a mobile device.

14. The machine-readable storage medium of claim 10 , wherein a message is stored in the memory and associated with the entry, and wherein the operations further comprise:

converting the stored message into a third synthesized speech signal; and

providing the third synthesized speech signal to the audio device.

15. The machine-readable storage medium of claim 10 , wherein the incoming communication is an instant message, and wherein the identification information comprises a name of a sender of the instant message.

16. A method comprising:

receiving, by a mobile device comprising a processor, an incoming communication, wherein the incoming communication comprises a text message;

obtaining, by the mobile device, identification information associated with the incoming communication;

monitoring, by the mobile device, whether an audio device is in communication with the processor;

receiving, by the mobile device, an activation signal indicating that the audio device is in communication with the processor via a wireless connection;

responsive to receiving the activation signal:

comparing, by the mobile device, contact information with the identification information associated with the incoming communication, wherein the contact information is stored in a memory of the device;

determining, by the mobile device, that the identification information is associated with an entry in the memory based on the comparing, in accordance with a match with the contact information in the entry;

converting, by the mobile device, the matching contact information into a first synthesized speech signal;

converting, by the mobile device, the text message into a second synthesized speech signal; and

providing, by the mobile device, the first synthesized speech signal and the second synthesized speech signal via the wireless connection to the audio device for audible presentation.

17. The method of claim 16 , wherein a recorded message is associated with the entry in the memory, and further comprising providing the recorded message to the audio device for audible presentation.

18. The method of claim 16 , wherein the incoming communication is an instant message, and wherein the identification information comprises a name of a sender of the instant message.

19. The method of claim 16 , wherein the audio device comprises a headset.

20. The method of claim 16 , wherein the audio device is part of a hands-free communication system, and wherein the incoming communication is an instant message.
