Abstract

Methods and synthesizing entities for synthesizing data feeds. The method includes registering the synthesizing entity with a registrar computer. Once the synthesizing entity is registered it can transmit a data feed request to the registrar computer for a data feed associated with a virtual device also registered with the registrar computer. The synthesizing entity then receives the requested data feed from the virtual device. The received data feed is then modified to generate a modified data feed. Once the modified data feed has been created the synthesizing entity can receive requests for the modified data feed from a virtual requestor device via the registrar. In response to receiving a request for the modified data feed the synthesizing entity provides the modified data feed to the virtual requestor device.

Claims (23)

1. A synthesizing entity comprising:

a first application interface operable to register the synthesizing entity with a registrar computer;

a logic module configured to transmit a data feed request to the registrar computer for a data feed associated with a virtual device acting as a proxy for a real or simulated device;

a second application interface configured to receive the data feed from the virtual device;

a synthesizing engine configured to produce a modified data feed using the data feed; and

a third application interface configured to receive a request for the modified data feed from a virtual requestor device acting as a proxy for a real requestor via the registrar computer; and

wherein the logic module is further configured to provide the modified data feed to the virtual requestor device without routing the modified data feed via the registrar computer.

2. The synthesizing entity of claim 1 , wherein the logic module is further configured to register the modified data feed with the registrar computer.

3. The synthesizing entity of claim 1 , wherein the logic module and the second application interface are configured to request and receive, respectively, a plurality of data feeds; and the synthesizing engine is configured to combine the plurality of data feeds to produce the modified data feed.

4. The synthesizing entity of claim 3 , wherein the synthesizing engine is configured to combine the plurality of data feeds using one or more mathematical functions.

5. The synthesizing entity of claim 1 , wherein the synthesizing engine is configured to combine the data feed with a further data feed generated by a device that is not registered with the registrar device.

6. The synthesizing entity of claim 1 , wherein the synthesizing entity is configured to act as both a virtual device acting as a proxy for a real or simulated device and a virtual requestor acting as a proxy for a real requestor.

7. A method of synthesizing data feeds, the method comprising: registering a synthesizing entity with a registrar computer;

transmitting a data feed request from the synthesizing entity to the registrar computer for a data feed associated with a virtual device acting as a proxy for a real or simulated device;

receiving the data feed at the synthesizing entity from the virtual device;

modifying the received data feed at the synthesizing entity to produce a modified data feed;

receiving a request for the modified data feed at the synthesizing entity from a virtual requestor device acting as a proxy for a real requestor via the registrar computer; and

providing the modified data feed to the virtual requestor device without routing the modified data feed via the registrar computer.

8. The method of claim 7 , further comprising registering the modified data feed with the registrar computer.

9. The method of claim 7 , wherein modifying the data feed comprises combining the data feed with a further data feed.

10. The method of claim 9 , wherein modifying the data feed comprises combining the data feed with the further data feed using one or more mathematical functions.

11. The method of claim 9 , wherein the further data feed is generated by a device that is not registered with the registrar computer.

12. The method of claim 9 , wherein the further data feed is generated by a device that is registered with the registrar computer.
