Abstract

A secure registry system and method for the use thereof are provided which permits secure access to a database containing selected data on a plurality of entities, at least portions of which database has restricted access. Mechanisms are provided for controlling access to restricted access portions of the database are provided, such access being determined by at least one of the identity of the requesting entity and the entity's status. A multicharacter public code may be provided which the system can map to provide permit delivery of items, complete telephone calls and perform other functions for entities. The system may also be utilized to locate an individual based on limited biological data. Organizations utilizing the system may have custom software facilitating their access and use of the system.

Claims (17)

1. An authentication system to enable transactions between a first party and users with secure data, comprising:

a device including:

a communication interface for communicating a signal including a time variant code to the first party responsive to an authentication input by a user to trigger payment processing for services;

a database including a first code associated with the user, and wherein the time variant code is generated with the first code associated with the user; and

a processor configured to communicate the signal including the time variant code for the user and to receive an approval signal indicating an authorized transaction, the receiving of the approval signal being based on matching of the time variant code to the user on whose behalf a transaction is to be performed, mapping of the user to secure data for identifying the user or a user account and including information required to enable the transaction to proceed anonymously at the first party, the information including account identifying information or user identifying information, and wherein the account or user identifying information is employed for enabling the transaction but the account or user identifying information remains unknown to the first party throughout processing.

The system according to claim 1 , wherein the processor is further configured to transmit from the device of the user the time variant code for the user and receive an approval signal indicating an authorized transaction, communicated based on matching of the time variant code to the user, mapping of the user to secure data, and complying with a restriction mechanism associated with permissions for the first party to access the secure data based at least in part on an indication of the first party and the time variant code.

3. The system according to claim 2 , wherein the indication of the first party includes a merchant identifier.

4. The system according to claim 1 , wherein the device is further configured to encrypt the time variant code prior to communicating the time variant code to the first party.

5. The system of claim 1 , wherein the device includes a fingerprint scanner.

6. The system of claim 5 , wherein the authentication input by the user includes submitting a fingerprint of the user.

7. The system of claim 1 , wherein the time variant code includes a secret code of the user configured to map to credit card information of the user.

8. The system of claim 1 , wherein the information is credit card information regarding the user, and wherein the time variant code is mapable to provide the credit card information of the user to enable a transaction.

9. The system of claim 1 , wherein the time variant code is generated as a single use non-predictable code.

10. The system of claim 1 , wherein the device communicates the time variant code to a point of sale, which passes the time variant code along for determining if the transaction is authorized.

11. The system of claim 1 , wherein the authentication input includes biometric information.

12. The system of claim 11 , wherein the device authenticates the user at the point of use based on a scan of the user's fingerprint.

13. The system of claim 1 , wherein the time variant code is associated with a multidigit public ID code for a credit card account, and wherein the multidigit public ID code for the credit card account is communicated to a credit card issuer to enable the transaction.
