Abstract

Embodiments of resonator circuits and modulating resonators and are described generally herein. One or more acoustic wave resonators may be coupled in series or parallel to generate tunable filters. One or more acoustic wave resonances may be modulated by one or more capacitors or tunable capacitors. One or more acoustic wave modules may also be switchable in a filter. Other embodiments may be described and claimed.

Claims (16)

1. An improvement to an unmatched impedance in a system between an input load and an output load, the improvement comprising:

an acoustic wave module (AWM) coupled between the input load and output load;

the AWM operating characteristics reducing the impedance mismatch between the input load and the output load, and

one of i) a pre-impedance matching module (IMM) coupled between the input load and the AWM and ii) a post-IMM coupled between the AWM and the output load, the one of a pre-IMM and the post-IMM including an active element.

2. The improvement to an unmatched impedance system of claim 1 , wherein the AWM has a resonant frequency and an anti-resonant frequency and the combination of the AWM and one of a pre-IMM and the post-IMM modifies the AWM anti-resonant frequency.

3. The improvement to an unmatched impedance system of claim 2 , the combination of the AWM and one of a pre-IMM and the post-IMM reducing the impedance mismatch between the input load and the output load about the modified AWM resonant frequency.

4. The improvement to an unmatched impedance system of claim 2 ,

wherein the AWM nominal resonant frequency and anti-resonant frequency are selected based on the modification of the AWM nominal resonant frequency and anti-resonant frequency by the one of a pre-IMM and the post-IMM.

5. The improvement to an unmatched impedance system of claim 4 , the combination of the AWM and one of a pre-IMM and the post-IMM reducing the impedance mismatch between the input load and the output load about the modified AWM resonant frequency.

6. The improvement to an unmatched impedance system of claim 2 , wherein the one of a pre-IMM and the post-IMM includes a capacitor.

7. The improvement to an unmatched impedance system of claim 1 , the AWM operating characteristics further filtering a signal produced by the input load.

8. The improvement to an unmatched impedance system of claim 1 , the input load producing a radio frequency (RF) signal.

9. The improvement to an unmatched impedance system of claim 1 , wherein the AWM is serially coupled between the input load and the output load.

10. The improvement to an unmatched impedance system of claim 1 , the AWM operating characteristics reducing the impedance mismatch between the input load and the output load for a limited range of frequencies.

11. The improvement to an unmatched impedance system of claim 1 , the AWM operating characteristics including a resonant frequency and an anti-resonant frequency and the AWM reducing the impedance mismatch between the input load and the output load for a frequency range including the resonant frequency.

12. The improvement to an unmatched impedance system of claim 1 , wherein the AWM operating characteristics reduces the real and imaginary impedance mismatch between the input load and the output load.
