METHOD FOR IMPROVING COLOR RENDITION IN A HEAD-WORN COMPUTER
Aspects of the present disclosure relate to a method for improving color rendition in images displayed to a user of a head-worn computer as digital images with colored subpixels, the method including determining the colors associated with each color filter in the color filter array, determining the subpixels positioned under each color filter in the color filter array along the chief ray angles sampled by the lens, shifting the digital code values between subpixels in the digital image to provide a modified digital image, wherein digital code values within the modified image are positioned at the determined subpixels positioned under each color filter along the chief ray angles sampled by the lens in correspondence to the colored subpixels in the digital image, and displaying the modified digital image in the head-worn computer.
1 . A method for improving color rendition in images displayed to a user of a head-worn computer as digital images with colored subpixels, wherein the head-worn computer includes an image source with an array of pixels, comprised of sets of subpixels that emit white light with a brightness in correspondence to digital code values in the image, wherein the emitted white light passes through a transparent layer and an array of color filters to provide colored image light that is sampled by a lens to provide a colored image comprised of colored subpixels that is displayed to the user, wherein the color filters are arranged in a pattern over each set of subpixels and the lens samples the colored image light along a chief ray angle from each subpixel that varies is accordance with the position of each subpixel relative to the center of the image source, comprising:
a. determining the colors associated with each color filter in the color filter array;
b. determining the subpixels positioned under each color filter in the color filter array along the chief ray angles sampled by the lens;
c. shifting the digital code values between subpixels in the digital image to provide a modified digital image, wherein digital code values within the modified image are positioned at the determined subpixels positioned under each color filter along the chief ray angles sampled by the lens in correspondence to the colored subpixels in the digital image; and
d. displaying the modified digital image in the head-worn computer.
2 . The method of claim 1 , wherein each set of subpixels includes three or more subpixels and one color filter is positioned over each subpixel.
3 . The method of claim 1 , wherein each set of subpixels includes three or more subpixels and color filters associated with each set subpixels include red, green and blue color filters.
4 . The method of claim 1 , wherein each set of subpixels includes three or more subpixels and color filters associated with each set subpixels include cyan, magenta and yellow color filters.

The method of claim 1 , wherein digital code values are shifted between subpixels so that the majority of light emitted by a subpixel along the chief ray angle sampled by the lens passes through a color filter thereby providing colored image light from the subpixel that is in correspondence with the colored digital image.
6 . The method of claim 1 , wherein digital code values are partially shifted between adjacent subpixels when light emitted by a subpixel along the chief ray angle sampled by the lens passes through more than one color filter.
7 . The method of claim 6 , wherein partially shifting of code values includes averaging code values between the adjacent subpixels.
