Cosmetic multi-layered wiper
View Patent ↗A multi-layered wiper for removing a product (e.g., a cosmetic product) from an applicator. The multi-layered wiper comprises a wiping body having a wiping face, an acute wiping tip, and vertical slits, formed of a first material, over-molded to a retention body, formed of another material harder than the first material. By virtue of having a multi-layered wiper comprising a wiping body, formed of a first material, over-molded to a retention body, formed of another material, harder than the first material, the multi-layered wiper is capable of providing exceptional installation characteristics, while simultaneously providing exceptional wiping characteristics.
1. A wiper comprising:
a retention body for fixing the wiper to a bottle of a dispenser; and
a wiping body for removing a portion of a product from an end of an applicator, the wiping body comprising a wiping face at a first end and a second end nearer the retention body; wherein the wiping face comprises a plurality of slits at least partially therethrough and each slit of the plurality of slits comprises an asymmetrical slit comprising a first edge cut in an interior facing side of the wiping face and a second edge shorter than the first edge cut in an exterior facing side of the wiping face.
2. The wiper of claim 1 wherein:
the wiping body has a generally dome-shaped portion terminating at the wiping face; and
the interior facing side of the wiping face is generally cylindrical in a portion thereof, with the slits arranged in at least the cylindrical portion thereof.
3. The wiper of claim 2 wherein the retention body is made of a first material, and the wiping body is made of a second material, wherein the first material is relatively harder than the second material.
4. The wiper of claim 3 wherein the wiping body is injection molded onto the retention body.
5. The wiper of claim 1 wherein:
the interior facing side of the wiping face is generally cylindrical in a portion thereof, and further includes a raised ridge toward the first end of the wiping body protruding towards the center of the wiper, with the slits arranged through the raised ridge.
6. The wiper of claim 5 wherein the retention body is made of a first material, and the wiping body is made of a second material, wherein the first material is relatively harder than the second material.
7. The wiper of claim 6 wherein the wiping body is injection molded onto the retention body.
8. The wiper of claim 1 wherein the retention body is made of a first material, and the wiping body is made of a second material, wherein the first material is relatively harder than the second material.
9. The wiper of claim 8 wherein the wiping body is injection molded onto the retention body.
10. The wiper of claim 1 wherein the wiping face comprises a generally circular, continuous surface at rest, defining an opening, with the slits allowing flexibility when a cosmetic applicator passes or extends through the opening.
11. A mascara brush and bottle comprising:
a reservoir for mascara;
a mascara brush; and
a wiper as in claim 1 .
12. A combination cosmetic applicator and bottle comprising:
a bottle for containing a product;
an applicator for use with the bottle to apply the product; and
a wiper as in claim 1 .
13. The combination of claim 12 wherein the applicator is a brush.
14. The combination of claim 12 wherein the applicator is a sponge.
15. The combination of claim 12 wherein the applicator is a stick.
16. The combination of claim 12 wherein the applicator is a pick.
17. The combination of claim 12 , further comprising a cosmetic product in the bottle, the cosmetic product being a mascara.
18. The combination of claim 12 , further comprising a cosmetic product in the bottle, the cosmetic product being a lip gloss.
19. The combination of claim 12 , further comprising a cosmetic product in the bottle, the cosmetic product being a nail polish.
