Abstract

An apparatus for producing a fundus image includes: a processor and a memory; an illumination component including a light source and operatively coupled to the processor; a camera including a lens and operatively coupled to the processor, wherein the memory stores instructions that, when executed by the processor, cause the apparatus to: execute an automated script for capture of the fundus image; and allow for manual capture of the fundus image.

Claims (27)

1. An apparatus for producing a fundus image, comprising:

a processor and a memory;

an illumination component including a light source and operatively coupled to the processor;

a display; and

a camera including a lens and operatively coupled to the processor,

wherein the memory stores instructions that, when executed by the processor, cause the apparatus to:

execute an automated script for capture of the fundus image;

generate a user interface on the display as part of the automated script, the user interface including a control for manual capture of the fundus image; and

allow a user to manually override the automated script to execute a manual script to capture the fundus image when the control is selected by the user during execution of the automated script, the manual script including:

provide one or more guides on the user interface to assist the user in approach of the apparatus to a proper position relative to the eye; and

automatically trigger the capture of the fundus image when the user moves the apparatus into the proper position;

automatically send the fundus image to an over read service to obtain feedback directly from one or more clinicians regarding the fundus image;

receive quality feedback on the fundus image from the one or more clinicians of the over read service;

present a message including the quality feedback on the fundus image on the user interface of the display; and

allow the user to capture a new fundus image based upon the quality feedback.

2. The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the processor executes further instructions that cause the apparatus to automatically send the fundus image to a remote computing device for storage.

3. The apparatus of claim 2 , wherein the fundus image is sent to the remote computing device upon the apparatus being positioned in a cradle.

4. The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the processor executes further instructions that cause the apparatus to display one or more messages from a remote computing device.

5. The apparatus of claim 4 , wherein the processor executes further instructions that cause the apparatus to receive the one or more messages as direct messages from the one or more clinicians of the over read service.

6. The apparatus of claim 1 , further comprising a plurality of scripts that cause automated capture of the fundus image.

7. The apparatus of claim 6 , wherein the processor executes further instructions that cause the apparatus to allow the user to override the plurality of scripts to manually capture the fundus image.

8. The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the processor executes further instructions that cause the apparatus to automatically indicate a quality of the fundus image.

9. The apparatus of claim 8 , wherein the quality is indicated using one or more of a quality color, a quality score, and a quality icon.

10. The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the automated script causes the apparatus to automatically:

define specific images of a patient's fundus for capture;

capture the specific images of the patient's fundus; and

analyze a quality of each of the specific images of the patient's fundus.
