Abstract

Disclosed herein are systems, device, methods, and non-transitory computer-readable storage media for enabling semi-manual media capture. Semi-manual media capture can involve calculating optimal exposure settings in an auto-exposure loop, displaying a scene with optimal exposure settings in real time, receiving a manual adjust gesture, and adjusting the scene, in real time, based on the manual adjust gesture.

Claims (56)

1. A computer-implemented method, comprising:

displaying, on a touch-sensitive display, an image of a scene to be captured, wherein the image of the scene to be captured includes a series of refreshed frames displaying the image;

receiving a selection of a portion of the displayed scene;

focusing an auto exposure algorithm on the selected portion of the displayed scene;

automatically setting auto exposure settings for the image based on the auto exposure algorithm focusing on the selected portion of the displayed scene;

displaying, on the touch-sensitive display, an adjustment element configured to manually adjust the auto-exposure settings;

receiving, on the touch-sensitive display, an adjustment gesture using the adjustment element, wherein receiving an adjustment gesture comprises receiving a slide gesture on the touch-sensitive display; and

adjusting the auto-exposure settings for the entire image for each of the refreshed frames, by applying the manual adjustment of the auto-exposure settings for the selected portion of the displayed scene to the entire image, wherein a degree of adjustment of the auto-exposure settings depends, at least in part, on a range of the slide gesture.

2. The computer-implemented method of claim 1 , wherein receiving a selection of a portion of the displayed scene comprises receiving a touch gesture on the touch-sensitive display.

3. The computer-implemented method of claim 1 , wherein the degree of adjustment of the auto-exposure settings further depends on a speed of the slide gesture.

4. The computer-implemented method of claim 1 , wherein receiving the adjustment gesture comprises receiving a voice command.

5. The computer-implemented method of claim 1 , wherein receiving the adjustment gesture comprises receiving a multi-touch gesture received on the touch-sensitive display.

6. The computer-implemented method of claim 5 , wherein the multi-touch gesture comprises a two-finger swipe gesture.

7. The computer-implemented method of claim 5 , wherein the multi-touch gesture comprises a three-finger rotate gesture.

8. The computer-implemented method of claim 1 , further comprising:

receiving, on the touch-sensitive display, an additional adjustment gesture; and

more-finely adjusting, based on the additional adjustment gesture, the auto-exposure settings for the entire image for each of the refreshed frames, by applying the additional adjustment of the auto-exposure settings for the selected portion of the displayed scene to the entire image.

9. A device comprising:

a touch sensitive display configured to display an image of a scene to be captured and to receive one or more inputs;

a memory coupled to the touch sensitive display, the memory configured to store data that includes instructions; and

a processor coupled to the touch sensitive display and the memory, the processor being configured to execute at least some of the instructions in order to:

cause the touch sensitive display to display the image of the scene to be captured, wherein the image of the scene to be captured includes a series of refreshed frames displaying the image;

receive, via the touch sensitive display, a selection of a portion of the displayed scene;

focus an auto exposure algorithm on the selected portion of the displayed scene;

automatically set auto exposure settings for the image based on an auto exposure algorithm focusing on the selected portion of the displayed scene;

cause the touch-sensitive display to display an adjustment element configured to manually adjust auto exposure settings;

receive, via the touch sensitive display, an adjustment gesture using the adjustment element, wherein the instructions for causing the processor to receive the adjustment gesture comprise instructions for causing the processor to receive the adjustment gesture as a slide gesture on the touch-sensitive display; and

adjust the auto-exposure settings for the entire image for each of the refreshed frames, by applying the manual adjustment of the auto-exposure settings for the selected portion of the displayed scene to the entire image, wherein a degree of adjustment of the auto-exposure settings depends, at least in part, on a speed of the slide gesture.

10. The device of claim 9 , wherein the degree of adjustment of the auto-exposure settings further depends on a range of the slide gesture.

11. The device of claim 9 , wherein the instructions for causing the processor to receive the selection of the portion of the displayed scene comprise instructions for causing the processor to:

receive a touch gesture on the touch-sensitive display.

12. The device of claim 9 , wherein the device further comprises an audio input device coupled to the processor, and wherein the instructions for causing the processor to receive the adjustment gesture comprise instructions for causing the processor to:

receive a voice command via the audio input device.

13. The device of claim 9 , wherein the instructions for causing the processor to receive the adjustment gesture comprise instructions for causing the processor to:

receive a multi-touch gesture via the touch-sensitive display.

14. The device of claim 9 , wherein the data stored in the memory includes additional instructions, and the processor is configured to execute at least some of the additional instructions in order to:

receive, via the touch-sensitive display, an additional adjustment gesture; and

more-finely adjust, based on the additional adjustment gesture, the auto-exposure settings for the entire image for each of the refreshed frames, by applying the additional adjustment of the auto-exposure settings for the selected portion of the displayed scene to the entire image.

15. A non-transitory computer-readable medium storing data, the data comprising instructions that, when executed by one or more processors, cause the one or more processors to:

cause a touch-sensitive display to display an image of a scene to be captured, wherein the image of the scene to be captured includes a series of refreshed frames displaying the image;

receive, via the touch-sensitive display, a selection of a portion of the displayed scene;

focus on the selected portion of the displayed scene;

automatically set auto exposure settings for the image based on an auto exposure algorithm focusing on the selected portion of the displayed scene;

cause the touch-sensitive display to display an adjustment element configured to manually adjust auto exposure settings;

receive, via the touch-sensitive display, an adjustment gesture using the adjustment element, wherein the instructions for causing the one or more processors to receive the adjustment gesture comprise instructions for causing the one or more processors to receive the adjustment gesture as a slide gesture on the touch-sensitive display; and

adjust the auto-exposure settings for the entire image for each of the refreshed frames by applying the manual adjustment of the auto-exposure settings for the selected portion of the displayed scene to the entire image, wherein a degree of adjustment of the auto-exposure settings depends, at least in part, on a speed of the slide.

16. The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 15 , wherein the degree of adjustment of the auto-exposure settings further depends on a range of the slide gesture.

17. The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 15 , wherein the instructions for causing the one or more processors to receive the selection of the portion of the displayed scene comprise instructions for causing the one or more processors to:

receive a touch gesture on the touch-sensitive display.

18. The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 15 , wherein the instructions for causing the one or more processors to receive the adjustment gesture comprise instructions for causing the one or more processors to:

receive a voice command via an audio input device.

19. The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 15 , wherein the instructions for causing the one or more processors to receive the adjustment gesture comprise instructions for causing the one or more processors to:

receive a multi-touch gesture via the touch-sensitive display.

20. The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 15 , wherein the data stored in the memory includes additional instructions, and the one or more processors execute at least some of the additional instructions in order to:
