Braided filament having flat morphology and methods of manufacture and use
View Patent ↗A braided filamentary device, in one embodiment, includes a substantially flat morphology having a length, a width, and a height, and a pick count of at least about 50 picks per inch. The filamentary device is adapted to maintain its width while under a tension.
1. A braided filamentary device, comprising a substantially flat morphology having a width between about 0.7 mm and about 3.0 mm, and a pick count of at least about 50 picks per inch, wherein the filamentary device is adapted to substantially maintain the width even when under a tension generating a force along a length of the filamentary device of at least 10 Newtons.
2. The device of claim 1 , wherein the force along the length of the filamentary device is at least 35 Newtons.
3. The device of claim 1 , wherein the width is about 1.2 mm.
4. The device of claim 3 , wherein the pick count is between about 60 and about 100 picks per inch.
5. The device of claim 4 , wherein the pick count is about 75 picks per inch.
6. The device of claim 1 , wherein the width is about 1.9 mm.
7. The device of claim 6 , wherein the pick count is between about 50 and about 100 picks per inch.
8. The device of claim 7 , wherein the pick count is about 70 picks per inch.
9. The device of claim 1 , wherein the substantially flat morphology includes a single sheet of braided material.
10. The device of claim 9 , further comprising a height of between about 0.2 mm and about 0.4 mm.
11. The device of claim 10 , wherein the height is between about 0.28 mm and about 0.38 mm.
12. The device of claim 1 , further comprising a plurality of fibers, wherein at least one of the fibers has a color contrasting the color of the other fibers.
13. The device of claim 1 , wherein the substantially flat morphology includes at least two sheets of braided material.
14. The device of claim 1 , wherein the substantially flat morphology has a width to height ratio along at least a portion of the length between about 4.0 and about 5.5.
15. The device of claim 1 , further comprising at least one marking having a width that is less than the width of the braided filamentary device.
16. The device of claim 15 , wherein, in a direction along the length of the device, the marking undulates along the width from one side of the device to the other side of the device.
17. The device of claim 16 , wherein the spacing between locations where the marking is on one of the sides of the device is adapted to denote a length.
