Abstract

The present invention provides systems, devices and related methods for applying electric fields for cancerous cell destruction and tissue ablation. A method can include advancing an ablation probe into a patient; deploying a guide from the delivery member along a guide tissue penetration path, deploying an electrode from the guide along an electrode tissue penetration path, and establishing current flow within the target tissue.

Claims (6)

1 . A device for selectively destroying abnormally proliferating cells, the device comprising:

a plurality of electrodes positionable within a target tissue region comprising the abnormally proliferating cells, the plurality comprising a first electrode and a plurality of secondary electrodes,

wherein the secondary electrodes at least partially define a treatment volume, the first electrode positionable within the treatment volume and spaced from the secondary electrodes so as to provide one or more alternating electric fields extending from the first electrode and through the treatment volume, and the one or more alternating fields operable for preferentially destroying the abnormally proliferating cells compared to normal cells within the treatment volume.

2 . The device of claim 1 , wherein the alternating electric fields comprise less than 50 V per cm for preferentially destroying the abnormally proliferating cells compared to normal cells within the treatment volume.

3 . The device of claim 1 , wherein the alternating electric fields have an intensity of less than 50 V/cm.

4 . The device of claim 1 further comprising a feedback control to control a temperature of the target tissue region cm for preferentially destroying the abnormally proliferating cells compared to normal cells within the treatment volume.
