Abstract

Techniques are disclosed for enabling a wind-sensing optical scope to communicate with external components to provide for a ballistic solution. Techniques may further incorporate cost saving features such as the utilization of a photo diode and/or other features. The wind-sensing optical scope may include various sensors to collect data for the ballistic solution, and/or data from external sensors may be used. Techniques may further incorporate range finding in the wind-sensing optical scope, depending on desired functionality.

send, via the wireless first communication interface, information indicative of the data obtained from the positioning unit.

3. The wind-sensing optical scope of claim 1 , further comprising one or more orientation sensors, wherein the processing unit is further configured to:

obtain data from the one or more orientation sensors; and

send, via the wireless first communication interface, information indicative of the data obtained from the one or more orientation sensors.

4. The wind-sensing optical scope of claim 1 , wherein the processing unit is further configured to:

cause the laser to emit one or more laser pulses;

obtain one or more measurements of reflected light of the one or more laser pulses from one of the sensors of the optical receiver;

calculate a range measurement based on the obtained measurements of the reflected light; and

send, via the wireless first communication interface, information indicative of the range measurement.

5. The wind-sensing optical scope of claim 1 , wherein the second communication interface utilizes wired communication.

6. The wind-sensing optical scope of claim 1 , wherein the processing unit is configured to cause the laser to emit the laser beam in response to receiving a request via the wireless first communication interface.

7. The wind-sensing optical scope of claim 1 , further comprising a user interface, wherein the processing unit is configured to cause the laser to emit the laser beam in response to receiving an input from the user interface.

8. A method of determining a ballistic solution with a wind-sensing optical scope, the method comprising:

causing a laser to emit a laser beam;

obtaining measurements of reflected light of the laser beam from an optical receiver, wherein the optical receiver comprises a first subassembly comprising a first set of lenses configured to direct light toward a first sensor and a second subassembly comprising a second set of lenses configured to direct light toward a second sensor, and wherein the measurements include first measurements corresponding to the first sensor and/or second measurements corresponding to the second sensor;

calculating, with a processing unit of the wind-sensing optical scope, a wind measurement based on the obtained measurements;

sending, via a wireless first communication interface of the wind-sensing optical scope, information indicative of the wind measurement to an external ballistic computer;

receiving, subsequent to sending the information, a ballistic solution at the wind-sensing optical scope from the external ballistic computer; and

sending, with the wind-sensing optical scope, information indicative of the ballistic solution to an optical scope display.

9. The method of determining a ballistic solution with a wind-sensing optical scope of claim 8 , further comprising:
