Abstract

An LED lamp comprising a housing, a drive circuit configured to electrically couple to a power source, and an LED package that is electrically coupled to and driven by the drive circuit. The LED package comprises a first LED configured to emit light having a peak intensity of about 450 nm, a second LED configured to emit light having a peak intensity within the range from 475 nm to 495 nm, and a color conversion material configured to perform a Stokes shift on light having a wavelength within the range from 440 nm to 460 nm.

Claims (55)

1. An LED lamp comprising:

a housing;

a drive circuit configured to electrically couple to a power source; and

an LED package that is electrically coupled to and driven by the drive circuit, the LED package comprising:

a first LED configured to emit light having a peak intensity of about 450 nm,

a second LED configured to emit light having a peak intensity within the range from 475 nm to 495 nm, and

a color conversion material configured to perform a Stokes shift on light having a wavelength within the range from 440 nm to 460 nm and also configured to emit light having a peak intensity within the range from 500 nm to 599 nm;

wherein the LED lamp is configured to self-tune to generate a light output spectrum depending on at least one of the lamp's location, the lamp's use, and the lamp's ambient environment; and

wherein the lamp is operable within a pre-sleep configuration, a phase-shift configuration, and a general lighting configuration.

2. The LED lamp according to claim 1 wherein light emitted by the LED lamp is configured to emit light that suppresses melatonin secretion in an observer.

3. The LED lamp according to claim 1 wherein the LED lamp does not comprise an LED configured to emit light having a peak intensity at a wavelength greater than 600 nm.

4. The LED lamp according to claim 1 wherein the LED lamp does not comprise a color conversion material configured to emit light having a peak intensity at a wavelength greater than 600 nm.

5. The LED lamp according to claim 1 wherein the LED package consists of:

a first LED configured to emit light having a peak intensity of about 450 nm;

a second LED configured to emit light having a peak intensity within the range from 475 nm to 495 nm; and

a color conversion material configured to perform a Stokes shift on light having a wavelength within the range from 440 nm to 460 nm and also configured to emit light having a peak intensity within the range from 500 nm to 599 nm.

6. The LED lamp according to claim 1 comprising a plurality of LED packages.

7. The LED lamp according to claim 6 wherein the plurality of LED packages consists of LED packages comprising:

a first LED configured to emit light having a peak intensity of about 450 nm;

a second LED configured to emit light having a peak intensity within the range from 475 nm to 495 nm; and

a color conversion material configured to perform a Stokes shift on light having a wavelength within the range from 440 nm to 460 nm and also configured to emit light having a peak intensity within the range from 500 nm to 599 nm.

8. The LED lamp according to claim 6 wherein the plurality of LED packages consists of LED packages consisting of:

a first LED configured to emit light having a peak intensity of about 450 nm;

a second LED configured to emit light having a peak intensity within the range from 475 nm to 495 nm; and

a color conversion material configured to perform a Stokes shift on light having a wavelength within the range from 440 nm to 460 nm and also configured to emit light having a peak intensity within the range from 500 nm to 599 nm.

9. The LED lamp according to claim 1 wherein light emitted by the LED lamp has a CRI of at least 90.

10. The LED lamp according to claim 1 wherein light emitted by the LED lamp has a CCT of less than 5000K.

11. The LED lamp according to claim 1 wherein light emitted by the LED lamp has a CRI #9 value of at least 40.

12. The LED lamp according to claim 11 wherein light emitted by the LED lamp has a CCT of less than 4000K.

13. The LED lamp according to claim 1 wherein the second LED configured to emit light having a peak intensity within the range from 480 nm to 490 nm.

14. The LED lamp according to claim 1 wherein the housing is configured to facilitate the attachment of the LED lamp to a troffer light fixture.

The LED lamp according to claim 1 further comprising an output select controller electrically coupled to the drive circuit to program the drive circuit to drive the LED package in one of a plurality of light output configurations, wherein the plurality of light output configurations includes a general lighting configuration and a phase-shift configuration.

16. The LED lamp according to claim 15 wherein light output in the phase-shift configuration has a peak intensity within the range from 475 nm to 490 nm that is greater than a peak intensity within the range from 475 nm to 490 nm of the light output in the general lighting configuration.

17. An LED lamp comprising:

a housing;

a drive circuit configured to electrically couple to a power source; and

a plurality of LED packages that are electrically coupled to and driven by the drive circuit, each LED package of the plurality of LED packages comprising:

a first LED configured to emit light having a peak intensity of about 450 nm,

a second LED configured to emit light having a peak intensity within the range from 475 nm to 495 nm, and

a color conversion material configured to perform a Stokes shift on light having a wavelength within the range from 440 nm to 460 nm and also configured to emit light having a peak intensity within the range from 500 nm to 599 nm;

wherein the LED lamp does not comprise an LED or a color conversion material configured to emit light having a wavelength greater than 600 nm; and

wherein light emitted by the LED lamp has a CRI of at least 90;

wherein the LED lamp is configured to self-tune to generate a light output spectrum depending on at least one of the lamp's location, the lamp's use, and the lamp's ambient environment; and

wherein the lamp is operable within a pre-sleep configuration, a phase-shift configuration, and a general lightning configuration.

18. The LED lamp according to claim 17 wherein light emitted by the LED lamp has a CCT of less than 5000K and a CRI #9 value of at least 40.

19. An LED lamp comprising:

a housing;

a drive circuit configured to electrically couple to a power source; and

an LED package that is electrically coupled to and driven by the drive circuit, the LED package consisting of:

a first LED configured to emit light having a peak intensity of about 450 nm,

a second LED configured to emit light having a peak intensity within the range from 475 nm to 490 nm, and

a color conversion material configured to perform a Stokes shift on light having a wavelength within the range from 440 nm to 460 nm and also configured to emit light having a peak intensity within the range from 500 nm to 599 nm;

wherein light emitted by the LED lamp has a CRI of at least 90, a CRI #9 value of at least 40, and a CCT of less than 4000K;

wherein the LED lamp is configured to self-tune to generate a light output spectrum depending on at least one of the lamp's location, the lamp's use, and the lamp's ambient environment; and

wherein the lamp is operable within a pre-sleep configuration, a phase-shift configuration, and a general lighting configuration.
