Abstract

A method for decoding video includes receiving a frame of the video that includes at least one slice and at least one tile. Each of the at least one slice and the at least one tile are not all aligned with one another. Each of the at least one slice is characterized that it is decoded independently of the other the at least one slice. Each of the at least one tile is characterized that it is a rectangular region of the frame and having coding units for the decoding arranged in a raster scan order. The at least one tile of the frame are collectively arranged in a raster scan order of the frame.

Claims (6)

1. A method for decoding video comprising:

(a) decoding a frame of said video in a bitstream, said frame including slices and tiles, each of said tiles defining a rectangular region of said frame and including a plurality of macroblocks arranged in a raster scan order, said tiles being arranged in a raster scan order in said frame, said decoding of said frame including decoding each of said tiles in said raster scan order, and decoding each of said plurality of macroblocks within each of said tiles in said raster scan order;

(b) receiving location data in a header of one of said slices to indicate a location of tile; and

(c) receiving end data in said bitstream at the end of one of said tiles when said location is the end of one of said tiles.

2. The method of claim 1 wherein each of said tiles is decoded in a manner that is independent of one another.

3. The method of claim 1 wherein said zero-padding of bits is not entropy decoded.
