Abstract

An apparatus and method are provided for extraction compounds from raw materials. The control and manipulation of heat formed and contained within the extraction vessel or column may be vital in obtaining a certain flavor profile or intensity of the effluent extracted from the raw materials. As such, the solvent entering the apparatus to extract the raw materials may be heated to a specified temperature range with the aid of energy already formed within the extraction column. The apparatus to extract the raw materials may include a body comprising a pressure vessel capable of withstanding high temperatures and pressures. Additionally, a flow of pressurized solvent may enter the base of the extraction column, where the flow of pressurized solvent has a select temperature such that the temperature may be manipulated to obtain a distinct flavor profile of the effluent extracted from the raw materials.

Claims (41)

1. A method of extracting a compound from an extractable material using an extraction column comprising:

packing the extraction column with said extractable materials;

directing a flow of pressurized solvent into a base of the extraction column;

compressing the extractable materials via hydraulic compression from energy created and stored within the extraction column;

wherein increasing the temperature of the flow of pressurized solvent occurs from a sudden release of thermal energy when the pressurized solvent drives deeply into a bed of packed extractable materials; and

increasing a temperature of the flow of pressurized solvent to manipulate a flavor profile of an effluent extracted from the extractable materials.

2. A method of extracting a compound from an extractable material using an extraction column comprising:

packing the extraction column with said extractable materials;

directing a flow of pressurized solvent into a base of the extraction column;

compressing the extractable materials via hydraulic compression from energy created and stored within the extraction column;

wherein the pressurized solvent drives deeply into the bed of packed extractable materials that is stationary as a result of static friction holding the bed of packed extractable materials against a side of the extraction column until a hydraulic force overcomes the coefficient of friction of the extraction column and the extractable materials;

wherein increasing the temperature of the flow of pressurized solvent occurs from a sudden release of thermal energy when the pressurized solvent drives deeply into a bed of packed extractable materials; and

increasing a temperature of the flow of pressurized solvent to manipulate a flavor profile of an effluent extracted from the extractable materials.

3. A method of extracting a compound from an extractable material using an extraction column comprising:

packing the extraction column with said extractable materials;

directing a flow of pressurized solvent into a base of the extraction column;

compressing the extractable materials via hydraulic compression from energy created and stored within the extraction column;

wherein increasing the temperature of the flow of pressurized solvent occurs from a sudden release of thermal energy when the pressurized solvent drives deeply into a bed of packed extractable materials;

increasing a temperature of the flow of pressurized solvent to manipulate a flavor profile of an effluent extracted from the extractable materials; and

wherein the sudden release of thermal energy causes an increase in temperature to achieve an optimal temperature range for extracting compounds and constituents from the extractable materials.

4. A method of extracting a compound from an extractable material using an extraction column comprising:

packing the extraction column with said extractable materials;

directing a flow of pressurized solvent into a base of the extraction column;

compressing the extractable materials via hydraulic compression from energy created and stored within the extraction column;

wherein increasing the temperature of the flow of pressurized solvent occurs from a sudden release of thermal energy when the pressurized solvent drives deeply into a bed of packed extractable materials;

increasing a temperature of the flow of pressurized solvent to manipulate a flavor profile of an effluent extracted from the extractable materials; and

wherein the sudden release of thermal energy causes an increase in temperature to achieve an optimal solubilization and mass temperature range for extracting compounds and constituents from said extractable materials, said optimal solubilization and mass temperature range is from 196° to 204° Fahrenheit.

5. A method of extracting a compound from an extractable material using an extraction column comprising:

packing the extraction column with said extractable materials;

directing a flow of pressurized solvent into a base of the extraction column;

compressing the extractable materials via hydraulic compression from energy created and stored within the extraction column;

wherein increasing the temperature of the flow of pressurized solvent occurs from a sudden release of thermal energy when the pressurized solvent drives deeply into a bed of packed extractable materials;

increasing a temperature of the flow of pressurized solvent to manipulate a flavor profile of an effluent extracted from the extractable materials; and

wherein the increase in temperature of the flow of pressurized solvent is centralized at a dividing line between a leading edge of pressurized solvent rising up the extraction column and the bed of packed extractable materials.

6. A method of extracting a compound From an extractable material using an extraction column comprising:

packing the extraction column with said extractable material;

directing a flow of pressurized solvent into a base of the extraction column;

compressing the extractable materials via hydraulic compression from energy created and stored within the extraction column;

wherein increasing the temperature of the flow of pressurized solvent occurs from a sudden release of thermal energy when the pressurized solvent drives deeply into a bed of packed extractable materials;

increasing a temperature of the flow of pressurized solvent to manipulate a flavor profile of an effluent extracted from the extractable materials; and

further comprising cooling down the extractable materials heated from the increase in temperature from the energy stored in the extraction column with a cooler flow of solvent which trails behind extracted extractable materials to preserve an extracted compound and constituent that are heat sensitive.
