Abstract

A mobile electronic device may have a multi-touch display device and a texturizing polymer layer. The texturizing polymer layer may elevate a surface portion of the texturizing polymer layer to a level to texturize information displayed on the multi-touch display device. A gesture may be detected for the elevated surface portion.

Claims (24)

1. A mobile electronic device comprising:

a multi-touch display device configured to receive multi-touch inputs, wherein a texturizing polymer layer comprised in part of gel is above the multi-touch display device and the multi-touch display device is substantially non-flexible;

a controller configured to control the multi-touch display device;

the controller further configured to control the texturizing polymer layer to elevate a surface portion of the texturizing polymer layer to a level to texturize a key on a keyboard displayed on the multi-touch display device;

a sensor configured to detect a gesture for the elevated surface portion; and

wherein the gesture comprises a finger push applied to a part of the elevated surface portion that displaces the gel and comprises a detected multi-touch input of the elevated surface portion.

2. The mobile electronic device of claim 1 , wherein the gesture is further based on a finger force applied to a top of the elevated surface portion.

3. The mobile electronic device of claim 1 , wherein the gesture is further based on a detected pull by a pinch input or a detected scrolling input of the elevated surface portion.

4. The mobile electronic device of claim 1 , wherein a zoom operation, received by the mobile electronic device, of the keyboard updates elevation of the elevated surface portion.

5. The mobile electronic device of claim 1 further comprising:

a motion sensor or an orientation sensor configured to detect an orientation change of the mobile electronic device; and

circuitry configured to update the elevation of the elevated surface portion based on the detected orientation change.

6. A method performed by a mobile electronic device, the method comprising:

receiving, by a multi-touch display device of the mobile electronic device, multi-touch inputs, wherein a texturizing polymer layer comprised in part of gel is above the multi-touch display device and the multi-touch display device is substantially non-flexible;

controlling, by a controller, the multi-touch display device;

controlling, by the controller, the texturizing polymer layer to elevate a surface portion of the texturizing polymer layer to a level to texturize a key on a keyboard displayed on the multi-touch display device;

detecting a gesture for the elevated surface portion; and

wherein the gesture comprises a finger push applied to a part of the elevated surface portion that displaces the gel and comprises a detected multi-touch input of the elevated surface portion.

7. The method of claim 6 , wherein the gesture is further based on a finger force applied to a top of the elevated surface portion.

8. The method of claim 6 , wherein the gesture is further based on a detected pull by a pinch input or a detected scrolling input of the elevated surface portion.

9. The method of claim 6 , wherein a zoom operation, received by the mobile electronic device, of the keyboard updates elevation of the elevated surface portion.

10. The method of claim 6 further comprising:

detecting, by a motion sensor or an orientation sensor, an orientation change of the mobile electronic device; and

updating the elevation of the elevated surface portion based on the detected orientation change.
