Abstract

Devices and methods for infusing liquids and/or brewing beverages are described. The present invention relates to an apparatus for brewing beverages comprising a vessel, said vessel comprising a sealable chamber for holding a brewing material and a liquid, and a filter assembly connected to the sealable chamber; a liquid supply and conduit for introducing at least a portion of said liquid supply into said sealable chamber; and a vacuum source and conduit for reducing pressure in said sealable chamber.

Claims (25)

1. A device for infusing liquids, comprising:

a vessel having a sealable chamber for holding a brewing material and a liquid;

a liquid supply and conduit for introducing at least a portion of said liquid supply into said sealable chamber; and

a vacuum source and conduit for reducing pressure in said sealable chamber, wherein said vacuum source comprises a first container containing a gas supply, a second container for receiving the gas from said first container via said conduit, and a valve positioned within said conduit, such that said sealable chamber is connected to said vacuum source via said valve.

2. The device of claim 1 , wherein said second container is separately connected to said chamber by a second conduit.

3. The device of claim 1 , wherein said valve is a venturi valve.

4. The device of claim 3 , wherein pressure within said sealable chamber is reduced when the gas in said first container is transferred to said second container via said venturi valve.

5. The device of claim 4 , wherein said gas is carbon dioxide (CO 2 ).

6. The device of claim 1 , further comprising a heat source for heating the liquid supply prior to introduction to the sealable chamber.

7. The device of claim 1 , further comprising a heat source for heating the liquid supply after introduction of the liquid to the sealable chamber.

8. The device of claim 2 , further comprising a filter assembly connected to the bottom of said sealable container.

9. The device of claim 8 , wherein said gas is delivered from said second container into said sealable container.

10. The device of claim 9 , wherein at least a portion of said brewing material is separated from said liquid when said liquid is forced through said filter assembly.

11. An apparatus for brewing beverages comprising:

a vessel, said vessel comprising:

a sealable chamber for holding a brewing material and a liquid, and a filter assembly connected to the sealable chamber, wherein the sealable chamber is configured to be sealed from atmosphere, and wherein said filter assembly comprises a filter mechanism and a port through which said liquid can be removed from the sealable chamber;

a liquid supply and conduit for introducing at least a portion of said liquid supply into said sealable chamber; and

a vacuum source and conduit for reducing pressure in said sealable chamber.

12. The apparatus of claim 11 , wherein a lower portion of the sealable chamber is removably attached to an upper portion of the sealable chamber, and the filter assembly is connected to the lower portion of the sealable chamber.

13. The apparatus of claim 11 , wherein said filter assembly further comprises a valve.

14. The apparatus of claim 11 , wherein said filter mechanism comprises a metal mesh.

15. The apparatus of claim 11 , wherein said filter mechanism comprises filter paper.

16. The apparatus of claim 11 , further comprising a heat source for heating the liquid supply prior to introduction to the sealable chamber.

17. The apparatus of claim 11 , further comprising a heat source for heating the liquid supply after introduction of the liquid to the sealable chamber.

18. The apparatus of claim 11 , wherein the vacuum source comprises a venturi pump.
