Abstract

A botanical antioxidant composition has a botanical antioxidant extract blend with at least 50 wt. % of the blend having one or more hydroxycinnamic acid, and: a first component comprising a camellia sinesis extract, a vitis vinifera extract, a euterpe oleracea extract, a curcuma longa extract, or a theobroma cacao extract; and a second component, different from the first component, comprising the camellia sinesis extract, the vitis vinifera extract, the euterpe oleracea extract, the curcuma longa extract, or the theobroma cacao extract; wherein the composition is a cosmetic or dermatological formulation in a cream, lotion, solution, serum, anhydrous preparation, emulsion, microemulsion, multiple emulsion, gel, solid stick, ointment, dry powder, spray, or aerosol form.

Claims (23)

1 . A composition comprising a botanical antioxidant extract blend, the blend, based on a total blend weight, comprising 50 wt. % or more of hydroxycinnamic acid, and:

a first component comprising a camellia sinesis extract, a vitis vinifera extract, a euterpe oleracea extract, a curcuma longa extract, or a theobroma cacao extract; and

a second component, different from the first component, comprising the camellia sinesis extract, the vitis vinifera extract, the euterpe oleracea extract, the curcuma longa extract, or the theobroma cacao extract;

wherein the composition is a cosmetic or dermatological formulation in a cream, lotion, solution, serum, anhydrous preparation, emulsion, microemulsion, multiple emulsion, gel, solid stick, ointment, dry powder, spray, or aerosol form.

2 . The composition of claim 1 , wherein the blend has an oxygen radical absorbance capacity (ORAC) value greater than the weight averaged individual ORAC values of blend components.

3 . The composition of claim 1 , wherein the blend further comprises a third component, different from all other components, comprising the camellia sinesis extract, the vitis vinifera extract, the euterpe oleracea extract, the curcuma longa extract, or the theobroma cacao extract.

4 . The composition of claim 3 , wherein the blend further comprises a fourth component, different from all other components, comprising the camellia sinesis extract, the vitis vinifera extract, the euterpe oleracea extract, the curcuma longa extract, or the theobroma cacao extract.

5 . The composition of claim 1 , wherein the blend comprises the camellia sinesis extract, the vitis vinifera extract, the euterpe oleracea extract, the curcuma longa extract, and the theobroma cacao extract.

6 . The composition of claim 1 , wherein the blend comprises the euterpe oleracea extract.

7 . The composition of claim 1 , wherein the blend comprises the camellia sinesis extract.

8 . The composition of claim 1 , wherein the blend comprises the vitis vinifera extract.

9 . The composition of claim 1 , wherein the blend comprises the euterpe oleracea extract, the curcuma longa extract, and theobroma cacao extract.

10 . The composition of claim 1 , wherein the blend comprises the vitis vinifera extract, the curcuma longa extract, and theobroma cacao extract.

11 . The composition of claim 1 , wherein the blend comprises 70 wt. % or more of the hydroxycinnamic acid, based on the total blend weight.

12 . The composition of claim 1 , wherein the blend comprises about 80 wt. % or more of the hydroxycinnamic acid, based on the total blend weight.

13 . The composition of claim 1 , wherein the hydroxycinnamic acid comprises alpha-cyano-4-hydroxycinnamic acid, caffeic acid, cichoric acid, cinnamic acid, chlorogenic acid, caftaric acid, coumarin, coumaric acid, coutaric acid, diferulic acid, fertaric acid, ferulic acid, sinapinic acid, or a mixture of two or more thereof.

14 . The composition of claim 1 , wherein the hydroxycinnamic acid comprises chlorogenic acid.

15 . The composition of claim 5 , wherein the blend further comprises caffeic acid, ferulic acid, coumaric acid, or a mixture of two or more thereof.

16 . The composition of claim 1 , wherein the blend further comprises vitamin B, vitamin C, vitamin E, or a mixture of two or more thereof.

17 . The composition of claim 1 , wherein the blend further comprises resveratrol, piceatannol, pterostilbene, astringin, or a mixture of two or more thereof.

18 . The composition of claim 1 , comprising 0.001 to 20 wt. % of the blend, based on a total composition weight.

19 . The composition of claim 1 , wherein the composition further comprises a surfactant, cosmetic auxiliary, pigment, UVA filter, UVB filter, propellant, thickening agent, emulsifier, solvent, water, perfume, dyestuff, deodorant, antimicrobial material, back-fatting agent, complexing agent, and sequestering agent, exfoliating agent, pearlescent agent, further plant extract, vitamin, or mixture of two or more of any of these.

20 . The composition of claim 1 , wherein the composition does not contain a synthetic antioxidant.
