Removal tool for use with endoscopic device
View Patent ↗Briefly, in accordance with one embodiment, a tool for use with an endoscopic procedure comprises a thermoplastic polyurethane expandable vessel.
1. An apparatus, comprising:
a single expandable vessel fused to a shaft comprising a thermoplastic polyurethane material and expandable from a diameter of at least approximately 5.0 mm up to a diameter of approximately 25 mm, said expandable vessel configured to receive a fluid from said shaft, said expandable vessel.
2. The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein at least a portion of said expandable vessel comprises a cross-linked thermoplastic polyurethane material.
3. The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein said expandable vessel comprises at least one radiopaque marking.
4. The apparatus of claim 3 , wherein said radiopaque marking comprises at least two discrete marks that separate as a volume of said expandable vessel increases.
5. The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein a portion of said shaft is surrounded by said expandable vessel corresponding to a portion along a length of said shaft.
6. The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the fluid is a saline solution and said expandable vessel is configured to receive the saline solution from said shaft resulting, at least in part, in said expandable vessel expanding in volume.
7. The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein said expandable vessel is fused to said shaft resulting, at least in part, from a thermoplastic welding process.
8. A method of removing an object, comprising:
inserting a single expandable vessel comprising a thermoplastic polyurethane material and expandable from a diameter of at least approximately 5.0 mm up to a diameter of approximately 25 mm, wherein the expandable vessel is fused to a shaft through an ostium; and
inserting a contrast fluid through said ostium.
9. The method of claim 8 , and further comprising:
injecting a fluid through said shaft into said expandable vessel.
10. The method of claim 9 , and further comprising: injecting said contrast fluid to areas proximal and/or distal to said expandable vessel if said expandable vessel approaches a threshold volume resulting, at least in part, from said injecting said fluid through said shaft into said expandable vessel.
11. The method of claim 10 , wherein said injecting said fluid results, at least in part, in said expandable vessel forming a temporary seal between said expandable vessel and an inner surface of an orifice.
12. The method of claim 9 , and further comprising: urging said expandable vessel towards said ostium until said object passes said ostium.
13. The method of claim 8 , and further comprising:
inserting said expandable vessel fused to said shaft through a working channel of an endoscopic device.
14. A system for use with an endoscopic device, comprising:
a shaft, wherein a portion of said shaft is surrounded by a single polyurethane expandable material, wherein the polyurethane expandable material is expandable from a diameter of at least approximately 5.0 mm up to a diameter of approximately 25 mm; and
one or more dispensing ports for injecting a fluid that results, at least in part, in expanding said polyurethane expandable material.
15. The system for use with an endoscopic device of claim 14 , wherein at least a portion of said polyurethane expandable material comprises a cross-linked material.
16. The system for use with an endoscopic device of claim 15 , wherein said shaft conveys fluoroscopic contrast dye disposed proximally and/or distally from said expanded polyurethane material.
17. The system for use with an endoscopic device of claim 14 , wherein said fluid conveyed by said shaft comprises a saline solution.
18. The system for use with an endoscopic device of claim 14 , wherein said shaft comprises a polyurethane material, and wherein said polyurethane expandable material is fused to said polyurethane material of said shaft.
