FOAMING AGENTS, FOAMABLE COMPOSITIONS, FOAMS AND ARTICLES CONTAINING HALOGEN SUBSTITUTED OLEFINS, AND METHODS OF MAKING SAME
Various uses of chloro,fluoroalkenes, particularly (HFCO-1233) in a variety of applications, including as blowing agents are disclosed.
1 . A blowing agent comprising:
(a) at least about 15% by weight of CF3CH═CHCl (HFCO-1233zd), wherein about 100% of said HFCO-1233zd in the blowing agent is trans-CF3CH═CHCl (transHFCO-1233zd); and
(b) from about 5% by weight to about 65% by weight of at least one co-blowing agent, wherein the blowing agent has a Global Warming Potential (GWP) of not greater than about 150.

6 . The blowing agent of claim 1 having an Ozone Depleting Potential (ODP) of not greater than about 0.05.

9 . The blowing agent of claim 1 wherein said transHFCO-1233zd is present in the composition in amounts of from about 40% by weight to about 90% by weight of the blowing agent.

11 . The blowing agent of claim 1 wherein said transHFCO-1233zd is present in the composition in amounts of from about 30% by weight to about 95% by weight of the blowing agent.

15 . The blowing agent of claim 1 wherein said co-blowing agent comprises H 2 O in amounts of from about 5% to about 65% by weight of the blowing agent composition.
16 . The blowing agent of claim 15 wherein said co-blowing agent comprises H 2 O in amounts of from about 10% to about 40% by weight of the blowing agent composition.
17 . The blowing agent of claim 15 wherein said co-blowing agent comprises H 2 O in amounts of from about 10% to about 20% by weight of the blowing agent composition.
18 . The blowing agent of claim 1 wherein said co-blowing agent comprises CO 2 in amounts of from about 5% to about 60% by weight of the blowing agent composition.
19 . The blowing agent of claim 18 wherein said co-blowing agent comprises CO 2 in amounts of from about 20% to about 50% by weight of the blowing agent composition.
20 . The blowing agent of claim 18 wherein said co-blowing agent comprises CO 2 in amounts of from about 40% to about 50% by weight of the blowing agent composition.
23 . The blowing agent of claim 18 wherein said co-blowing agent comprises one or more alcohols in amounts of from about 5% to about 40% by weight of the blowing agent composition.
24 . The blowing agent of claim 1 wherein said co-blowing agent comprises one or more alcohols in amounts of from about 10% to about 40% by weight of the blowing agent composition.
25 . The blowing agent of claim 24 wherein said co-blowing agent comprises one or more alcohols in amounts of from about 15% to about 25% by weight of the blowing agent composition.
26 . The blowing agent of claim 25 wherein said one or more alocohols is selected from the group consisting of C2 alcohols, C3 alcohols and C5 alcohols, and combinations of these.

35 . The blowing agent of claim 1 wherein said co-blowing agent comprises one or more HCs in amounts of from about 20% to about 60% by weight of the blowing agent composition.
36 . The blowing agent of claim 35 wherein said one or more HCs comprises C3-C5 HCs.

40 . The blowing agent of claim 1 wherein said at least one co-blowing agent comprises one or more hydrocarbons.
41 . The blowing agent of claim 40 wherein said one or more hydrocarbons comprise one or more C4-C6 hydrocarbons.
42 . The blowing agent of claim 40 wherein said one or more hydrocarbons are selected from the group consisting of isopentane, normal pentane, cyclopentane, butane and isobutane, and combinations of two or more of these.
43 . The blowing agent of claim 1 wherein said adjuvant comprises at least one co-blowing agent selected from the group consisting of water, CO 2 , CFCs, HCCs, HCFCs, C1-C5 alcohols, C1-C4 aldehydes, C1-C4 ketones, C1-C4 ethers, and combinations of two or more of these.
