Abstract

Systems, devices and methods for the management of glucose levels in the body of patient featuring user interface input mechanisms configured to provide haptic feedback to the user are provided.

Claims (26)

1. A glucose management device, comprising:

a processor;

a user interface controllable by the processor, the user interface configured for tactile contact by a user for entering a value of one or more parameters of the glucose management device; and

a feedback mechanism, wherein the processor controls the feedback mechanism to provide a haptic feedback response to the user as the entered value of a selected parameter approaches or moves away from at least one set value of the selected parameter.

The glucose management device of claim 1 , wherein the user interface is further configured to allow the user to adjust the value of the selected parameter in at least two directions, wherein adjustment in the first direction increases the entered value of the selected parameter and adjustment in the second direction decreases the entered value of the selected parameter.

The glucose management device of claim 2 , wherein the processor controls the feedback mechanism to increase the intensity of the haptic feedback response as the entered value of the selected parameter approaches the at least one set value of the selected parameter, and to decrease the intensity of the haptic feedback response as the entered value of the selected parameter moves away from the at least one set value of the selected parameter.

The glucose management device of claim 2 , wherein the processor controls the feedback mechanism to decrease the intensity of the haptic feedback response as the entered value of the selected parameter approaches the at least one set value of the selected parameter, and to increase the intensity of the haptic feedback response as the entered value of the selected parameter moves away from the at least one set value of the selected parameter.

The glucose management device of claim 2 , wherein the processor controls the feedback mechanism to increase the intensity of the haptic feedback response as the entered value of the selected parameter approaches the at least one set value of the selected parameter, and to decrease the intensity of the haptic feedback response as the entered value of the selected parameter moves away from the at least one set value of the selected parameter.

6. The glucose management device of claim 5 , wherein the processor controls the user interface to prevent further adjustment of the entered value of the selected parameter beyond the at least one set value of the selected parameter.

7. The glucose management device of claim 1 , wherein the processor controls the feedback mechanism to provide a detent sensation to the user.

8. The glucose measurement device of claim 7 , wherein the processor controls the feedback mechanism to apply the detent sensation each time a predefined unit of the entered value of the selected parameter is reached.

9. The glucose management device of claim 1 , wherein the user interface includes a touch screen configured to display the entered value of the selected parameter.

10. The glucose management device of claim 1 , wherein the user interface comprises a touch screen and the haptic feedback response is vibration.

11. The glucose management device of claim 1 , further comprising an infusion pump, wherein the one or more parameters relate to the administration of insulin by the infusion pump.

12. The glucose management device of claim 11 , wherein the selected parameter is insulin dosage, and wherein the set value is a maximum dose.

13. The glucose management device of claim 1 , wherein the at least one set value is at least one target value or at least one predefined limit.

14. A glucose management device, comprising:

a processor;

a user interface controllable by the processor, the user interface configured for tactile contact by a user for entering a value of one or more parameters of the glucose management device; and

a feedback mechanism, wherein the processor controls the feedback mechanism to provide haptic feedback in the form of a detent sensation each time a predefined unit of the entered value of the selected parameter is reached.

The glucose management device of claim 14 , wherein the processor controls the feedback mechanism to increase the detent sensation to the user as the entered value of the selected parameter approaches at least one set value of the selected parameter, and to decrease the detent sensation to the user as the value of the selected parameter moves away from the at least one set value of the selected parameter.

The glucose management device of claim 14 , wherein the processor controls the feedback mechanism to decrease the detent sensation to the user as the entered value of the selected parameter approaches at least one set value of the selected parameter, and to increase the detent sensation to the user as the entered value of the selected parameter moves away from the at least one set value of the selected parameter.

The glucose management device of claim 14 , wherein the processor controls the feedback mechanism to increase the detent sensation to the user as the entered value of the selected parameter approaches at least one set value of the selected parameter, and to decrease the detent sensation to the user as the entered value of the selected parameter moves away from the at least one set value of the selected parameter.

The glucose management device of claim 14 , wherein the user interface is further configured to allow the user to adjust the entered value of the selected parameter in at least two directions, wherein adjustment in the first direction increases the entered value of the selected parameter and adjustment in the second direction decreases the entered value of the selected parameter.

19. The glucose management device of claim 14 , wherein the processor controls the feedback mechanism to provide haptic feedback to the user as the entered value of the selected parameter approaches or moves away from at least one set value of the selected parameter.

20. The glucose management device of claim 14 , wherein the selected parameter is insulin dosage.
