Abstract

A medical device for treating a heart valve insufficiency, with an endoprosthesis which can be introduced into a patient's body and expanded to secure a heart valve prosthesis in the patient's aorta. In an embodiment, the endoprosthesis has a plurality of positioning arches configured to be positioned with respect to a patient's aorta and a plurality of retaining arches to support a heart valve prosthesis. The endoprosthesis includes a first collapsed mode during the process of introducing it into the patient's body and a second expanded mode when it is implanted.

Claims (29)

1. An endoprosthesis comprising:

a plurality of first arches configured to be respectively positioned within a plurality of pockets of a native heart valve on a first side of a plurality of native valve leaflets, each first arch having an apex oriented in a first direction and an open end joined to an open end of an adjacent first arch;

a plurality of second arches each having an apex oriented in the first direction and configured to be positioned on a second side of the plurality of native valve leaflets, such that the plurality of native valve leaflets are positioned radially inward of at least a portion of the plurality of first arches and radially outward of at least a portion of the plurality of second arches when the endoprosthesis is implanted; and

a prosthetic valve attached to the plurality of second arches such that at least part of the prosthetic valve extends from the plurality of second arches transversely across an interior of the endoprosthesis.

2. The endoprosthesis of claim 1 , wherein each first arch of the plurality of first arches has a U-shaped or V-shaped structure.

3. The endoprosthesis of claim 1 , wherein each second arch of the plurality of second arches has a U-shaped or V-shaped structure.

4. The endoprosthesis of claim 1 , wherein the plurality of first arches includes exactly three first arches.

5. The endoprosthesis of claim 1 , wherein the plurality of first arches are connected to the plurality of second arches by connecting webs.

6. The endoprosthesis of claim 5 , wherein the endoprosthesis includes exactly three first arches and exactly three connecting webs, each connecting web being oriented in a longitudinal direction of the endoprosthesis.

7. The endoprosthesis of claim 1 , wherein the prosthetic valve is sutured directly to the plurality of second arches.

8. The endoprosthesis of claim 1 , wherein each first arch of the plurality of first arches is axially aligned with a respective second arch of the plurality of second arches.

9. The endoprosthesis of claim 1 , wherein the plurality of first arches and the plurality of second arches are integrally connected.

10. The endoprosthesis of claim 1 , wherein the plurality of first arches and the plurality of second arches are self-expandable.

11. The endoprosthesis of claim 10 , wherein the plurality of first arches are self-expandable independently of the plurality of second arches.

12. An endoprosthesis comprising:

a plurality of first arches configured to be respectively positioned within a plurality of pockets of a native heart valve on a first side of a plurality of native valve leaflets, each first arch having a U-shape, an apex oriented in a first direction, and an open end joined to an open end of an adjacent first arch;

a plurality of second arches each having an apex oriented in the first direction and configured to be positioned on a second side of the plurality of native valve leaflets, such that the plurality of native valve leaflets are positioned radially inward of at least a portion of the plurality of first arches and radially outward of at least a portion of the plurality of second arches when the endoprosthesis is implanted, the plurality of first arches being connected to the plurality of second arches by connecting webs; and

a prosthetic valve attached to the plurality of second arches such that at least part of the prosthetic valve extends from the plurality of second arches transversely across an interior of the endoprosthesis.

13. The endoprosthesis of claim 12 , wherein the prosthetic valve is sutured directly to the plurality of second arches, and the prosthetic valve is not directly attached to the plurality of first arches.

14. The endoprosthesis of claim 12 , wherein the plurality of first arches and the plurality of second arches comprise a shape memory material.

15. The endoprosthesis of claim 12 , wherein the endoprosthesis comprises exactly three connecting webs, and each connecting web defines an aperture therein.

16. The endoprosthesis of claim 15 , wherein each connecting web defines a single aperture proximate an end of the connecting web.

17. An endoprosthesis comprising:

exactly three first arches configured to be respectively positioned within three pockets of a native heart valve on a first side of three native valve leaflets, each first arch having an apex oriented in a first direction and an open end joined to an open end of an adjacent first arch;

a plurality of second arches each having an apex oriented in the first direction and configured to be positioned on a second side of the three native valve leaflets, such that the three native valve leaflets are positioned radially inward of at least a portion of the exactly three first arches and radially outward of at least a portion of the plurality of second arches when the endoprosthesis is implanted, the exactly three first arches being indirectly connected to the plurality of second arches by three connecting webs; and

a prosthetic valve attached to the plurality of second arches such that at least part of the prosthetic valve extends from the plurality of second arches transversely across an interior of the endoprosthesis.

18. The endoprosthesis of claim 17 , wherein the exactly three first arches and the plurality of second arches are self-expandable, and the exactly three first arches are self-expandable independently of the plurality of second arches.

19. The endoprosthesis of claim 17 , wherein the prosthetic valve is sutured directly to the plurality of second arches, and the prosthetic valve is not directly attached to the plurality of first arches.

20. The endoprosthesis of claim 17 , wherein each of the three connecting webs is oriented in a longitudinal direction of the endoprosthesis and disposed between two adjacent first arches.
