Abstract

A method, apparatus, and computer readable storage to implement an augmented game system. A player can play an online game and accumulate loyalty points without have to pay cash. The player can enter a physical casino and play an electronic gaming machine which can retrieve the player's information from the online game including the number of loyalty points the player has and any other incentives or game add-ons the player would be entitled to. The player would then play a physical game on the electronic game normally (by depositing cash and playing) but the game play would be augmented by virtue of the player having the loyalty points or other incentives or add-ons. For example, the game can be augmented by giving the player a better paytable.

4. The method as recited in claim 3 , wherein when the mode is casual play the player does not earn comp points for playing the particular slot machine game and the player does earn loyalty points for playing the particular slot machine game.

5. The method as recited in claim 1 , wherein when the mode is real money the player also earns loyalty points for playing the particular slot machine game.

6. The method as recited in claim 4 , wherein when the mode is real money, the player also earns loyalty points for playing the particular slot machine game.

7. The method as recited in claim 6 , further comprising enabling the player to redeem the loyalty points at the EGM.

enable the player to select a mode out of a set of modes comprising casual play and real money;

when the mode is real money then receive a wager in cash credits, play a particular slot machine game, and award cash credits upon winning outcomes, wherein cash credits are directly redeemable for cash;

enable the player to purchase cash credits by inserting cash into the bill validator;

when the mode is casual play, then receive a wager in non cash value credits, play the particular slot machine game, and award non cash value credits upon winning outcomes, wherein non cash value credits are not directly redeemable for cash and are not redeemable for tangible goods;

enable the player to purchase non cash value credits by inserting cash into the bill validator, wherein a number of non cash value credits per dollar is different than a number of cash credits per dollar; and

allow the player to continue playing in the mode and change the mode whenever the player wishes to change the mode.

9. The apparatus as recited in claim 8 , wherein the computer readable instructions are further programmed such that the cash credits cannot be converted into non cash value credits and non cash value credits cannot be converted into cash credits.

10. The method as recited in claim 8 , wherein the computer readable instructions are further programmed such that when the mode is real money then the player also earns comp points for playing the wagering game.

11. The method as recited in claim 10 , wherein the computer readable instructions are further programmed such that when the mode is casual play the player does not earn comp points for playing the particular slot machine game and the player does earn loyalty points for playing the particular slot machine game.

12. The method as recited in claim 8 , wherein the computer readable instructions are further programmed such that when the mode is real money the player also earns loyalty points for playing the particular slot machine game.

13. The method as recited in claim 11 , wherein the computer readable instructions are further programmed such that when the mode is real money, the player also earns loyalty points for playing the particular slot machine game.

14. The method as recited in claim 13 , wherein the computer readable instructions are further programmed to enable the player to redeem the loyalty points at the electronic gaming machine.
