Abstract

A method includes receiving, at a processor, an identification of a storage tape. The method further includes determining, at the processor, a start-point for extracting information from the storage tape. The method further includes extracting the information, by the processor, from the storage tape starting at the start-point. The method further includes determining, by the processor, whether an end-point of the information has been reached. The method further includes reproducing, by the processor, the information to a computer-readable medium. The method further includes formatting, by the processor, the information to conform with format requirements of an activity log analyzing tool.

Claims (49)

1 . A method, comprising:

receiving, at a processor, an identification and a type of a storage tape;

receiving, at the processor, a file ID of an audit file containing a log of activities performed on a database and stored on the storage tape;

reading, by the processor, the storage tape computer readable medium;

determining, at the processor, that a start-point of the audit file has been reached on the storage tape;

extracting the log of activities related to the audit file, by the processor, from the storage tape;

determining, by the processor, that a file endpoint of the audit file has been reached;

reproducing the extracted log of activities to a non-transitory computer-readable medium;

formatting, by the processor, a format of the reproduced log of activities extracted from the storage tape on the non-transitory computer readable medium into one or more different formats based on one or more format requirements of one or more endpoint application that use the extracted log of activities, wherein the one or more endpoint application has one or more different format requirements, wherein the one or more endpoint application is at least one of a log reviewing tool or a second storage tape with a second type; and wherein the formatted log of activities conforms with the different one or more format requirements of either the log reviewing tool or the second type;

transmitting, by the processor, the reproduced and formatted log of activities on the non-transitory computer-readable medium from the non-transitory computer-readable medium to the one or more endpoint application and deleting the reproduced and formatted log of activities from the non-transitory computer-readable medium; and

generating, by the processor, a summary report including a status of the extraction of each section of one or more sections of the audit trail and identification of a storage file for storing the extracted log of activities.

2 . The method according to claim 1 , wherein the identification of the storage tape includes a reel identification.

3 . The method according to claim 1 , wherein the start-point is determined using one of the following: an F-cycle number, a timestamp, and a start of reel.

4 . The method according to claim 1 , wherein formatting includes formatting, by the processor, the log of activities extracted to conform with format requirements of the one or more endpoint application that is a different type of a computer readable medium.

5 . The method according to claim 1 , wherein formatting includes

formatting, by the process, the log of activities extracted into an executable file that conform with format requirements of the endpoint application.

6 . A computer program product, comprising:

a non-transitory computer-readable medium comprising instructions which, when executed by a processor of a computing system, cause the processor to perform the steps of:

receiving an identification and a type of a storage tape;

receiving, at the processor, a file ID of an audit file stored on the storage tape;

reading, by the processor, the storage tape;

determining, that a start-point of the audit file from the storage tape has been reached;

extracting information related to the audit file, from the storage tape;

determining that a file endpoint of the audit file has been reached;

writing the information extracted from the storage tape, from the start-point to the endpoint, to a second non-transitory computer-readable medium; and

formatting the format of the information on the second non-transitory computer-readable medium that was extracted from the storage tape into one or more different formats based on one or more format requirements of one or more endpoint application that use the extracted information, wherein the one or more endpoint application has one or more different format requirements, wherein the one or more endpoint application is at least one of a log reviewing tool or a second storage tape with a second type; and wherein the formatted log of activities conforms with the different one or more format requirements of either the log reviewing tool or the second type;

transmitting the formatted information on the second non-transitory computer-readable medium from the second non-transitory computer-readable medium to the one or more endpoint application and deleting the reproduced and formatted log of activities from the non-transitory computer-readable medium; and

generating a summary report of including a status of the extraction of each section of one or more sections of the audit trail and identification of a storage file for storing the extracted information related to the audit file.

7 . The computer program product of claim 6 , wherein the identification of the storage tape includes a reel identification.

8 . The computer program product of claim 6 , wherein the start-point is determined using one of the following: an F-cycle number, a timestamp, and a start of reel.

9 . The computer program product of claim 6 , wherein formatting includes formatting, by the processor, the information extracted to conform with format requirements of the one or more endpoint application that is a different type of a computer readable medium.

10 . The computer program product of claim 6 , wherein formatting includes formatting, by the process, the information extracted into an executable file that conforms with format requirements of the one or more endpoint application.

11 . An apparatus, comprising:

a memory; and

a processor coupled to the memory, the processor being configured to execute the steps of:

receiving an identification and a type of a storage tape;

receiving, at the processor, a file ID of an audit file stored on the storage tape;

reading, by the processor, the storage tape;

determining that a start-point of the audit file the storage tape has been reached;

extracting information related to the audit file, from the storage tape;

determining that a file endpoint of the audit file has been reached;

writing the information extracted from the storage tape, from the start-point to the endpoint, to a non-transitory computer-readable medium; and

formatting the format of the information on the non-transitory computer-readable medium that was extracted from the storage tape based on one or more format requirements of one or more endpoint application that use the extracted information, wherein the one or more endpoint application has one or more different format requirements, wherein the one or more endpoint application is at least one of a log reviewing tool or a second storage tape with a second type; and wherein the formatted log of activities conforms with the different one or more format requirements of either the log reviewing tool or the second type;

transmitting the formatted information on the non-transitory computer-readable medium from the non-transitory computer-readable medium to the one or more endpoint application and deleting the reproduced and formatted log of activities from the non-transitory computer-readable medium; and

generating, by the processor, a summary report of including a status of the extraction of each section of one or more sections of the audit trail and identification of a storage file for storing the extracted information related to the audit file.

12 . The apparatus of claim 11 , wherein the identification of the storage tape includes a reel identification.

13 . The apparatus of claim 11 , wherein the start-point is determined using one of the following: an F-cycle number, a timestamp, and a start of reel.

14 . The apparatus of claim 11 , wherein formatting includes formatting, by the processor, the information extracted to conform with format requirements of an endpoint application that is a different type of a computer readable medium.

15 . The apparatus of claim 11 , wherein formatting includes formatting, by the process, the information extracted into an executable file that conforms with format requirements of the one or more endpoint application.
