Abstract

A hygiene compliance module is configured to be retrofit with a compatible dispenser to enable hygiene compliance monitoring functions. The hygiene compliance module is configured to be coupled to the dispenser via a communication interface to receive power, ground, and dispenser actuation signals therefrom. In addition, the hygiene compliance module is enabled to communicate with a wireless data tag that is worn by a user of the dispenser and with a remote hygiene compliance monitoring station.

Claims (64)

1. A method of obtaining hygiene compliance data comprising:

providing a compliance monitoring station;

providing a soap or sanitizer dispenser having;

a housing with a base and a cover;

a power source for providing power to the dispenser;

a receptacle for receiving a refill unit containing soap or sanitizer; and

a communication port located within the housing;

providing power to the communication port;

providing a compliance module for insertion into the dispenser;

the compliance module having

a circuit board;

a module controller located on the circuit board;

a module housing at least partially surrounding the module controller;

module communication circuitry for wirelessly communicating with one or more of the compliance monitoring station and a data tag; and

a connector for connecting to the communication port;

the connector having a power connector, a ground connector, and a actuation signal connector for receiving a signal indicative of a dispense event from the controller; and

installing the compliance module in the soap or sanitizer dispenser and connecting the connector to the communication port so that the compliance module receives power from the dispenser.

2. The method of obtaining hygiene compliance data of claim 1 further comprising installing the refill unit containing soap or sanitizer in the dispenser.

3. The method of obtaining hygiene compliance data of claim 1 further comprising providing the data tag.

4. The method of obtaining hygiene compliance data of claim 1 further comprising providing a wireless communication signal between the module to the data tag.

5. The method of obtaining hygiene compliance data of claim 1 further comprising providing a wireless communication signal indicative of the dispense event to the compliance monitoring station.

6. The method of obtaining hygiene compliance data of claim 1 further comprising providing a wireless communication signal indicative of an identification of the data tag to the compliance monitoring station.

7. The method of obtaining hygiene compliance data of claim 1 further comprising providing a signal indicative of the dispense event to the communication port.

8. A method of obtaining hygiene compliance data comprising:

providing a soap or sanitizer dispenser having

a housing;

a receptacle for receiving a refill unit containing soap or sanitizer; and

a communication port located within the housing; and

a power supply;

providing a compliance module for insertion into the dispenser;

the compliance module having

a circuit board;

a module controller located on the circuit board;

a module housing at least partially surrounding the module controller;

module communication circuitry for wirelessly communicating with one or more of a compliance monitoring station and a data tag; and

a connector for connecting to the communication port of the dispenser;

the connector having an actuation signal conductor for receiving an actuation signal from the communication port; and

installing the compliance module in the soap or sanitizer dispenser.

9. The method of obtaining hygiene compliance data of claim 8 further comprising installing the refill unit containing soap or sanitizer in the dispenser.

10. The method of obtaining hygiene compliance data of claim 8 further comprising providing the data tag.

11. The method of obtaining hygiene compliance data of claim 10 further comprising providing a wireless communication signal between the compliance module and the data tag.

12. The method of obtaining hygiene compliance data of claim 8 further comprising providing the compliance monitoring station.

13. The method of obtaining hygiene compliance data of claim 12 further comprising providing a wireless communication signal indicative of a dispense event to the compliance monitoring station.

14. The method of obtaining hygiene compliance data of claim 12 further comprising providing a wireless communication signal indicative of an identification of the data tag to the compliance monitoring station.

15. The method of obtaining hygiene compliance data of claim 12 further comprising providing a wireless communication signal indicative of a dispense event and an identification of the data tag to the compliance monitoring station.

16. A method of obtaining hygiene compliance data comprising:

providing a soap or sanitizer dispenser having

a housing;

a receptacle for receiving a refill unit containing soap or sanitizer;

a dispenser controller;

a communication port located within the housing; and

a power supply;

providing a compliance module for insertion into the dispenser;

the compliance module having

a card having a connector, said connector adapted to be inserted in the communication port of the dispenser so as to be electrically coupled to the dispenser controller;

a module controller coupled to said connector;

wherein when the connector is inserted in the communication interface of the dispenser the module controller enables hygiene compliance monitoring functions, such that the module controller is configured to detect an actuation signal from the dispenser controller as dispensing event data; and

a transmitter coupled to the module controller;

wherein the transmitter transmits the dispensing event data to a monitoring station; and

installing the compliance module in the dispenser.

17. The method of obtaining hygiene compliance data of claim 16 further comprising installing the refill unit containing soap or sanitizer in the dispenser.

18. The method of obtaining hygiene compliance data of claim 16 further comprising providing power to the compliance module through the communication port.

19. The method of obtaining hygiene compliance data of claim 16 further comprising providing a data tag.

20. The method of obtaining hygiene compliance data of claim 16 further comprising providing the monitoring station.
