PROXYING DATA ACCESS REQUESTS
A method begins by a processing module issuing updated resource weighting factors to a plurality of storage units of two or more storage sets. The method continues with the processing module initiating transfer of encoded data slices between at least some storage units of the plurality of storage units of the two or more storage sets in accordance with the updated resource weighting factors; and, while transferring encoded data slices, determining whether to proxy a received access request based on a status of the transferring of the encoded data slices.
1 . A method for execution by one or more processing modules of one or more computing devices of a dispersed storage network (DSN), the method comprises:
determining, by a processing unit, to change weighting factors associated with a plurality of storage sets;
issuing, by the processing unit, first weighting factors to the plurality of storage sets, the first weighting factors including at least a proxy threshold level;
for each encoded data slice stored in a current storage unit, performing a distributed agreement protocol function on a slice name to produce a score of a plurality of scores;
initiating, by the current storage unit, transfer of encoded data slices from a current storage unit to a next storage unit associated with a highest score when the highest score is not associated with the current storage unit; and
while transferring the encoded data slices, determining by the current storage unit whether to proxy a received access request based on the proxy threshold level and a status of the transferring of the encoded data slices.
2 . The method of claim 1 , where the first weighting factors further include one or more of: current weighting factors or next weighting factors.
3 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the proxy threshold level indicates a level of slice transfer at which next storage resources facilitate proxying of slice access requests with current storage resources.
4 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the proxy threshold level is based on one or more of: a predetermination, a DSN activity level, a request, a generation of a request, or as a request sent to storage units of the storage sets.
5 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the change to weighting factors is based on one or more of: interpreting requests, interpreting a schedule, or identifying an unfavorable storage condition.
6 . The method of claim 1 , where the first weighting factors indicate current weighting factors, next weighting factors and the proxy threshold level.
7 . A method for execution by one or more processing modules of one or more computing devices of a dispersed storage network (DSN), the method comprises:
issuing updated resource weighting factors to a plurality of storage units of two or more storage sets;
initiating transfer of encoded data slices between at least some storage units of the plurality of storage units of the two or more storage sets in accordance with the updated resource weighting factors; and
while transferring encoded data slices, determine whether to proxy a received access request based on a status of the transferring of the encoded data slices.
8 . The method of claim 7 further comprises:
initiating, for each slice of the encoded data slices stored in a current storage unit of the at least some storage units, a distributed agreement protocol function on a slice name of the slice to produce a score of a plurality of scores; and
the initiating transfer of encoded data slices between at least some storage units of the plurality of storage units of the two or more storage sets is based on a highest score when the highest score is not associated with the current storage unit.
9 . The method of claim 8 further comprises:
indicating, by the current storage unit, to proxy the received access request when the status for a proxy threshold level number of the encoded data slices have not been transferred.
10 . The method of claim 8 further comprises:
indicating, by the next storage unit of the at least some storage units, to proxy the received access request when the status for a proxy threshold level number of the encoded data slices has been transferred.
11 . The method of claim 10 further comprises:
when the proxy threshold level number of slices has been transferred, sending weighting factors the next storage unit to indicate that the proxy threshold level number of slices has been transferred.
12 . The method of claim 7 , wherein the updated resource weighting factors are based on one or more of: interpreting requests, interpreting a schedule, of identifying an unfavorable storage condition.
13 . The method of claim 7 further comprising determining a status based on a proxy threshold level that represents a level of slice transfer at which next storage resources facilitate proxying of slice access requests with current storage resources.
14 . The method of claim 13 , wherein the proxy threshold level is based on one or more of: a predetermination, a DSN activity level, a request, generation of a request, or a request sent to the plurality of storage units of two or more storage sets.
15 . The method of claim 7 , wherein the one or more processing modules functions to cause the one or more computing devices of the DSN to determine the weighting factors by sending current weighting factors, next weighting factors, and a proxy threshold level to the plurality of storage units of two or more storage sets.
16 . A computing device of a group of computing devices of a dispersed storage network (DSN), the computing device comprises:
an interface;
a local memory; and
a processing module operably coupled to the interface and the local memory, wherein the processing module functions to:
while transferring encoded data slices between a current storage unit and a next storage unit within the DSN, determining, by the current storage unit of the DSN, whether to proxy a received encoded data slice access request based on current weighting factors when a proxy threshold level number of slices has not been transferred;
indicating, by the next storage unit, to proxy the access request when the proxy threshold level number of slices has been transferred;
indicating that the proxy threshold level number of slices has been transferred; and
transferring, to the next storage unit, next weighting factors to indicate that the proxy threshold level number of slices has been transferred.
17 . The computing device of claim 16 , wherein the processing module functions to determine the proxy threshold level based on one or more of: a predetermination, a DSN level, a request, generation of a request, or a request sent to the storage units of the DSN.
18 . The computing device of claim 16 , wherein the processing module functions to determine a change from the current weighting factors to the next weighting factors based on one or more of: interpreting requests, interpreting a schedule, or identifying an unfavorable storage condition.
19 . The computing device of claim 17 , wherein the proxy threshold level indicates a level of the encoded data slices transferred at which the next storage unit facilitates proxying of slice access requests with the current storage unit.
20 . The computing device of claim 17 , wherein the processing module further functions to:
before, transferring encoded data slices within the DSN, initiating, for each slice of the encoded data slices stored in a current storage unit, a distributed agreement protocol function on a slice name of the slice to produce a score of a plurality of scores; and
initiating the transfer of encoded data slices to the next storage unit based on a highest score when the highest score is not associated with the current storage unit.
