Abstract

A system and method for manipulating a virtual object based on thought is described. A display of a device displays a first virtual object based on an identification of a physical object detected by the device. The device monitors brain activity data of a user of the device. The brain activity data is generated in response to the first virtual object being displayed in the display. The device identifies a second virtual object based on the brain activity data of the user of the device and displays the second virtual object in the display.

Claims (80)

1. A device comprising:

an electroencephalogram sensor to generate the brain activity data of the user:

a heart rate sensor to generate heart rate data of the user;

a display configured to display a first virtual object based on an identification of a physical object detected by the device; and

an augmented reality (AR) application, implemented with a hardware processor of the device, the hardware processor configured to:

adjust a view of the first virtual object in the display based on a change in a relative position between the device and the physical object;

detect that the first virtual object is being displayed in a trigger area in the display based on the view of the first virtual object in the display, the trigger area including a predefined static area of the display;

monitor brain activity data of a user of the device, the brain activity data generated in response to detecting that the first virtual object is being displayed in the trigger area in the display;

identify a second virtual object based on a combination of the brain activity data and the heart rate data of the user of the device; and

display the second virtual object in the display.

2. The device of claim 1 , further comprising:

a camera configured to capture an image of the physical object; and

a storage device configured to store the first and second virtual object models, corresponding brainwave patterns and physical object identifiers,

wherein the AR application is configured to identify the physical object and obtain the identification of the physical object based on the image of the physical object.

3. The device of claim 1 , wherein the brain activity is a brainwave pattern, the AR application being configured to:

access a plurality of reference brainwave patterns, each reference brainwave pattern associated with a corresponding virtual object of a plurality of virtual objects;

compare the brainwave pattern from the brain activity data of the user with the plurality of reference brainwave patterns to identify a corresponding brainwave pattern; and

identify the second virtual object associated with the corresponding brainwave pattern.

4. The device of claim 1 , further comprising:

an eye tracking sensor to determine a gaze of the user towards the display,

wherein the AR application is configured to identify the second virtual object based on the gaze of the user.

5. The device of claim 4 , wherein the AR application is configured to identify the second virtual object based on the brain activity data, the heart rate data, and the gaze of the user.

6. The device of claim 1 , further comprising:

a location sensor to determine a geographic location of the device,

wherein the AR application is configured to identify the second virtual object based on both the brain activity data and the geographic location of the device.

7. The device of claim 1 , further comprising:

a social network application, implemented with the hardware processor, configured to access, via a communication network, social network information associated with the user,

wherein the AR application is configured to identify the second virtual object based on both the brain activity data and the social network information associated with the user.

8. The device of claim 1 , wherein the AR application is configured to:

identify a location on the display corresponding to a gaze of the user, the display displaying the second virtual object; and

enable an interactive feature of the second virtual object based on the identified location on the display and the brain activity data of the user.

9. The device of claim 8 , wherein the interactive feature of the second virtual object changes state in response to a change in intensity and pattern of the brain activity data of the user.

10. The device of claim 1 , wherein the AR application is configured to:

identify a location on the display corresponding to a gaze of the user, the display displaying the second virtual object; and

identify a third virtual object based on the identified location on the display and the brain activity data of the user.

11. A method comprising:

generating the brain activity data of the user with an electroencephalogram sensor;

generating heart rate data of the user with a heart rate sensor;

displaying, in a display of a device, a first virtual object based on an identification of a physical object detected by the device;

adjusting a view of the first virtual object in the display based on a change in a relative position between the device and the physical object;

detecting that the first virtual object is being displayed in a trigger area in the display based on the view of the first virtual object in the display, the trigger area including a predefined static area of the display;

monitoring, using a hardware processor of the device, brain activity data of a user of the device, the brain activity data generated in response to detecting that the first virtual object is being displayed in the trigger area in the display;

identifying a second virtual object based on a combination of the brain activity data and the heart rate data of the user of the device; and

displaying the second virtual object in the display.

12. The method of claim 11 , further comprising:

capturing an image of the physical object with a camera of the device;

identifying the physical object and obtain the identification of the physical object based on the image of the physical object; and

storing the first and second virtual object models, corresponding brainwave patterns and physical object identifiers in a storage device of the device.

13. The method of claim 11 , wherein the brain activity is a brainwave pattern,

wherein the method further comprises:

accessing a plurality of reference brainwave patterns, each reference brainwave pattern associated with a corresponding virtual object of a plurality of virtual objects;

comparing the brainwave pattern from the brain activity data of the user with the plurality of reference brainwave patterns to identify a corresponding brainwave pattern; and

identifying the second virtual object associated with the corresponding brainwave pattern.

14. The method of claim 11 , further comprising:

determining a gaze of the user towards the display with an eye tracking sensor; and

identifying the second virtual object based on the gaze of the user.

15. The method of claim 14 , further comprising:

identifying the second virtual object based on the brain activity data, the heart rate data, and the gaze of the user.

16. The method of claim 11 , further comprising:

determining a geographic location of the device using a location sensor; and

identifying the second virtual object based on both the brain activity data and the geographic location of the device.

17. The method of claim 11 , further comprising:

accessing, via a communication network, social network information associated with the user; and

identifying the second virtual object based on both the brain activity data and the social network information associated with the user.

18. The method of claim 11 , further comprising:

identifying a location on the display corresponding to a gaze of the user, the display displaying the second virtual object;

enabling an interactive feature of the second virtual object based on the identified location on the display and the brain activity data of the user; and

changing a state of the interactive feature of the second virtual object in response to a change in intensity and pattern of the brain activity data of the user.

19. The method of claim 11 , further comprising:

identifying a location on the display corresponding to a gaze of the user, the display displaying the second virtual object; and

identifying a third virtual object based on the identified location on the display and the brain activity data of the user.

20. A non-transitory machine-readable medium comprising instructions that, when executed by one or more processors of a machine, cause the machine to perform operations comprising:

generating the brain activity data of the user with an electroencephalogram sensor;

generating heart rate data of the user with a heart rate sensor;

displaying, in a display of a device, a first virtual object based on an identification of a physical object detected by the device;

adjusting a view of the first virtual object in the display based on a change in a relative position between the device and the physical object;

detecting that the first virtual object is being displayed in a trigger area in the display based on the view of the first virtual object in the display, the trigger area including a predefined static area of the display;

monitoring brain activity data of a user of the device, the brain activity data generated in response to detecting that the first virtual object is being displayed in the trigger area in the display;

identifying a second virtual object based on a combination of the brain activity data and the heart rate data of the user of the device; and

displaying the second virtual object in the display.
