Abstract

An occupancy based targeted marketing system for augmenting market control techniques corresponding to one or more buildings of one or more building types within a geographic subsector is provided. The system includes a subsector aggregator, an other facility occupancy estimator, and a subsector processor. The subsector aggregator receives energy consumption and outside temperature streams corresponding to a portion of the one or more buildings, and employs occupancy components to generate average occupancy components corresponding to each building type. The other facility occupancy estimator matches the average occupancy components to remaining ones of the one or more buildings not in the portion according to building type. The subsector processor uses the first and second aggregated occupancy components to modify defaults of market control devices based on the occupancy estimate to optimize targeted advertising to a flow of pedestrians and automotive vehicles in the geographic subsector.

a subsector occupancy aggregator, configured to receive energy consumption and outside temperature streams corresponding to a portion of the one or more buildings, and configured to employ occupancy components for each building within said portion of the one or more buildings to process said streams, and configured to generate average occupancy components corresponding to each building type within said portion of the one or more buildings and a first aggregated occupancy component for said portion of the one or more buildings, wherein said occupancy components are generated by exclusively processing said streams, said occupancy components comprising:

a lower bound of energy consumption as a function of outside temperature when a corresponding one of said one or more buildings is a minimum occupancy;

a normalized occupancy profile component as a function of a prescribed time increment;

a marginal energy consumption component as a function of outside temperature; and

a daily occupancy level component for each of a plurality of days, wherein said daily occupancy component is a function of said normalized occupancy profile component and said marginal energy consumption component;

an other facility occupancy estimator, coupled to said subsector occupancy aggregator, configured to receive said average occupancy components, and configured to match said average occupancy components to remaining ones of the one or more buildings not in said portion according to building type, and configured to generate a second aggregated occupancy component for said remaining ones; and

a subsector market control processor, configured to employ said first and second aggregated occupancy components to determine an occupancy estimate for the one or more buildings, and configured to modify defaults of one or more corresponding market control devices based on said occupancy estimate to optimize targeted advertising to a flow of pedestrians and automotive vehicles in the geographic subsector.

2. The system as recited in claim 1 , wherein, for each of the one or more buildings in said portion, said occupancy components are generated by processing a data set comprising energy consumption and said outside temperature data for said each, said energy consumption said outside temperature data taken at said prescribed time increment over said plurality of days.

3. The system as recited in claim 2 , wherein said prescribed time increment ranges from 1 minute to 2 hours.

4. The system as recited in claim 1 , wherein said defaults comprise timing of said one or more corresponding market control devices.

5. The system as recited in claim 4 , wherein said defaults comprise states of said one or more corresponding market control devices.

6. The system as recited in claim 1 , wherein said market control devices comprise controllable signage.

7. The system as recited in claim 1 , wherein said market control devices comprise video display devices.

8. An occupancy based targeted marketing system for augmenting market control techniques corresponding to one or more buildings of one or more building types within a geographic subsector, the occupancy based targeted marketing system comprising:

a subsector occupancy aggregator, configured to receive energy consumption and outside temperature streams corresponding to a portion of the one or more buildings, and configured to employ occupancy components for each building within said portion of the one or more buildings to process said streams, and configured to generate average occupancy components corresponding to each building type within said portion of the one or more buildings and a first aggregated occupancy component for said portion of the one or more buildings, wherein said occupancy components are generated by exclusively processing said streams, said occupancy components comprising:

a lower bound of energy consumption as a function of outside temperature when a corresponding one of said one or more buildings is a minimum occupancy;

a normalized occupancy profile component as a function of a prescribed time increment;

a marginal energy consumption component as a function of outside temperature; and

a daily occupancy level component for each of a plurality of days, wherein said daily occupancy component is a function of said normalized occupancy profile component and said marginal energy consumption component;

an other facility occupancy estimator, coupled to said subsector occupancy aggregator, configured to receive said average occupancy components, and configured to match said average occupancy components to remaining ones of the one or more buildings not in said portion according to building type, and configured to generate a second aggregated occupancy component for said remaining ones;

a subsector market control processor, configured to employ said first and second aggregated occupancy components to determine an occupancy estimate for the one or more buildings, and configured to modify defaults of one or more corresponding market control devices based on said occupancy estimate to optimize targeted advertising to a flow of pedestrians and automotive vehicles in the geographic subsector; and

a regional market control center, coupled to said subsector market control processor, configured to provide said defaults for said one or more market control devices.

9. The system as recited in claim 8 , wherein, for each of the one or more buildings in said portion, said occupancy components are generated by processing a data set comprising energy consumption and outside temperature data for said each, said energy consumption and said outside temperature data taken at said prescribed time increment over said plurality of days.

10. The system as recited in claim 9 , wherein said prescribed time increment ranges from 1 minute to 2 hours.

11. The system as recited in claim 8 , wherein said defaults comprise timing of said one or more corresponding market control devices.

12. The system as recited in claim 11 , wherein said defaults comprise states of said one or more corresponding market control devices.

13. The system as recited in claim 8 , wherein said market control devices comprise controllable signage.

14. The system as recited in claim 8 , wherein said market control devices comprise video display devices.

15. An occupancy based market control method for augmenting market control mechanisms corresponding to one or more buildings of one or more building types within a geographic subsector, the method comprising:

receiving energy consumption and outside temperature streams corresponding to a portion of the one or more buildings, and employing occupancy components for each building within the portion of the one or more buildings to process the streams, and generating average occupancy components corresponding to each building type within the portion of the one or more buildings and a first aggregated occupancy component for the portion of the one or more buildings, wherein the occupancy components are generated by exclusively processing the streams, the occupancy components comprising:

a lower bound of energy consumption as a function of outside temperature when a corresponding one of the one or more buildings is a minimum occupancy;
