Abstract

Aspects of the present disclosure relates to user interface systems and methods for use in head-worn computing systems.

Claims (28)

1. A wearable head device, comprising:

a frame including an arm and configured to hold the wearable head device to a user's head;

a see-through display configured to be positioned in front of the user's eye, the display coupled to the arm for mechanical support, the display further configured to present a graphical user interface;

a rotary dial disposed on the arm and configured to be accessible to the user when the wearable head device is worn by the user; and

a capacitive touch pad disposed on the arm and configured to receive touch input,

wherein the rotary dial is configured to move a cursor in a direction in the graphical user interface, and

wherein the capacitive touch pad is configured to select the direction in which the cursor is to be moved by the rotary dial.

2. The wearable head device of claim 1 , wherein the rotary dial includes a plurality of mechanical stops adapted to cause the rotary dial to stop turning in increments and correspondingly select an element of the graphical user interface.

3. The wearable head device of claim 1 , wherein:

in accordance with the capacitive touch pad receiving a first touch input, rotating the rotary dial causes the cursor to move vertically on the display, and

in accordance with the capacitive touch pad receiving a second touch input, rotating the rotary dial causes the cursor to move horizontally on the display.

4. The wearable head device of claim 1 , wherein the graphical user interface includes a plurality of selectable elements, and wherein rotating the rotary dial causes the cursor to snap to a next selectable element in the plurality of selectable elements in a direction indicated by the user via the touch input.

5. The wearable head device of claim 1 , wherein the graphical user interface includes a continuously scrollable environment, wherein rotating the rotary dial causes the continuously scrollable environment to scroll in a direction indicated by the user via the touch input.

6. The wearable head device of claim 1 , further comprising a haptic feedback system adapted to present haptic feedback to the user in accordance with a turn of the rotary dial.

7. The wearable head device of claim 6 , wherein the haptic feedback is provided by a plurality of piezo strips.

8. The wearable head device of claim 6 , wherein a magnitude of the haptic feedback varies based on an input to the rotary dial, the input including the turn of the rotary dial.

9. The wearable head device of claim 6 , wherein a magnitude of the haptic feedback varies based on a touch input received by the capacitive touch pad.

10. The wearable head device of claim 6 , wherein a magnitude of the haptic feedback varies based on a direction of the turn of the rotary dial.

11. The wearable head device of claim 1 , further comprising a haptic feedback system adapted to present haptic feedback to the user in accordance with the capacitive touch pad receiving a touch input.

12. The wearable head device of claim 11 , wherein the haptic feedback is provided by a plurality of piezo strips.

13. The wearable head device of claim 11 , wherein a magnitude of the haptic feedback varies based on an input to the rotary dial, the input including a turn of the rotary dial.

14. The wearable head device of claim 11 , wherein a magnitude of the haptic feedback varies based on the touch input received by the capacitive touch pad.

15. The wearable head device of claim 11 , wherein a magnitude of the haptic feedback varies based on a direction of turn of the rotary dial.

16. The wearable head device of claim 1 , wherein an element of the graphical user interface is selected in response to receiving an input in the direction of a center of the rotary dial.

17. The wearable head device of claim 1 , wherein an element of the graphical user interface is selected in response to the capacitive touch pad receiving the touch input.

18. The wearable head device of claim 17 , wherein the element is selected based on a length of selection time.

19. The wearable head device of claim 17 , wherein the element is selected based on a pattern of user interactions.

20. The wearable head device of claim 19 , wherein the pattern includes a plurality of quick activations.
