Abstract

Systems and methods for using wireless beacons in point of purchase (“POP”) displays to facilitate the delivery of consumer oriented content to mobile devices is disclosed herein. The wireless beacons may be configured at an assembly location for the POP displays. A clock may be associated with the wireless beacon. The clock may be used to set a selected date and a selected time for the wireless beacon to begin broadcasting for a campaign designated for the POP displays. The POP displays may be moved to a retail location with the wireless beacon deactivated with the wireless beacon activating at the selected date and the selected time at the retail location.

Claims (52)

61 . An apparatus, comprising:

a processor;

a memory;

a non-removable battery configured to power the apparatus;

a wireless beacon, wherein the wireless beacon is configured to broadcast a wireless signal, the wireless signal including a data packet, and wherein the data packet comprises a unique identifier for the wireless beacon;

a clock associated with the wireless beacon; and

a switch adapted to turn on power from the non-removable battery to the wireless beacon;

wherein the apparatus is configured to be coupled to a point of purchase (POP) display comprising a consumer product display, the POP display being configured to be deployed at a retail location, and wherein the unique identifier for the wireless beacon is associated with a campaign designated for the POP display and one or more retailers connected to the campaign; and

wherein the apparatus is configured to activate the switch and turn on power to the wireless beacon in response to a determination that at least one of one or more criteria is met.

62 . The apparatus of claim 61 , wherein the wireless beacon comprises a Bluetooth beacon.

63 . The apparatus of claim 61 , wherein the one or more criteria includes at least one of the following: date, time, ambient light level, proximity, whether the retail location is open, or whether a user is nearby.

64 . The apparatus of claim 61 , wherein the clock is configured to track both date and time.

65 . The apparatus of claim 61 , wherein the apparatus further comprises an ambient light sensor.

66 . The apparatus of claim 65 , wherein the apparatus is configured to turn on power to the wireless beacon in response to the ambient light sensor detecting a light level above a selected threshold.

67 . The apparatus of claim 61 , wherein the apparatus is configured to turn on power to the wireless beacon if the clock indicates a time for the campaign designated for the POP display has begun.

68 . The apparatus of claim 61 , further comprising a proximity sensor, wherein the apparatus is configured to turn on power to the wireless beacon in response to the proximity sensor detecting a user near the POP display.

69 . The apparatus of claim 61 , further comprising an accelerometer, wherein the apparatus is configured to turn on power to the wireless beacon for a selected amount of time in response to movement detected by the accelerometer.

70 . A method, comprising:

providing a point of purchase (POP) display comprising a consumer product display to an assembly location;

providing a circuit board to the assembly location, wherein the circuit board comprises:

a processor;

a memory;

a non-removable battery configured to power the apparatus;

a wireless beacon, wherein the wireless beacon is configured to broadcast a wireless signal, the wireless signal including a data packet, wherein the data packet comprises a unique identifier for the wireless beacon; and

a clock associated with the wireless beacon; and

wherein the wireless beacon is deactivated when provided to the assembly location;

activating the wireless beacon;

configuring the wireless beacon to associate the wireless beacon with the POP display and associate the unique identifier with a campaign designated for the POP display, wherein configuring the wireless beacon comprises:

setting a date and a time for the processor and the clock to a current date and a current time; and

configuring the wireless beacon begin broadcasting when the clock reaches a selected date and a selected time for the campaign designated for the POP display to begin;

deactivating the wireless beacon;

coupling the circuit board to the POP display; and

moving the POP display and the circuit board to a retail location, wherein the wireless beacon is configured to activate at the retail location when the selected date and the selected time for the campaign designated for the POP display are reached in the clock.

71 . The method of claim 70 , wherein the wireless beacon comprises a Bluetooth beacon.

The method of claim 70 , wherein the circuit board comprises an ambient light sensor, and wherein the wireless beacon is configured to activate when both the selected date and the selected time for the campaign designated for the POP display are reached in the clock and also the ambient light sensor detects a light level above a selected threshold.

73 . The method of claim 70 , further comprising configuring the wireless beacon using a wireless connection between a wireless programming device and the wireless beacon, wherein the wireless programming device comprises a processor and a memory storing configuration instructions.

The method of claim 70 , further comprising coupling a unique label to the circuit board, wherein, during configuration of the wireless beacon, the unique label is associated with information about the wireless beacon, and wherein the unique label is configured to be scanned to access the information about the wireless beacon while the wireless beacon is deactivated.

75 . An apparatus, comprising:

a processor;

a memory;

a battery configured to power the apparatus;

a wireless beacon, wherein the wireless beacon is configured to broadcast a wireless signal, the wireless signal including a data packet, and wherein the data packet comprises a unique identifier for the wireless beacon; and

a clock associated with the wireless beacon;

wherein the apparatus is configured to be coupled to a point of purchase (POP) display comprising a consumer product display, the POP display being configured to be deployed at a retail location, and wherein the unique identifier for the wireless beacon is associated with a campaign designated for the POP display and one or more retailers connected to the campaign;

wherein the wireless beacon is configured to be deactivated when the apparatus is coupled to the POP display, and wherein the apparatus is configured to activate the wireless beacon at the deployed retail location when a selected date and a selected time for the campaign designated for the POP display are reached in the clock.

76 . The apparatus of claim 75 , wherein the wireless beacon comprises a Bluetooth beacon.

77 . The apparatus of claim 75 , wherein the clock is configured with the selected date and the selected time for the campaign designated for the POP display to begin.

78 . The apparatus of claim 75 , wherein the selected date and the selected time comprise an absolute amount of time elapsed between a time the apparatus is configured and a time for the campaign to begin.

79 . The apparatus of claim 75 , wherein the apparatus further comprises an ambient light sensor, wherein the apparatus is configured to activate the wireless beacon when both the selected date and the selected time for the campaign designated for the POP display are reached in the clock and also the ambient light sensor detects a light level above a selected threshold.

80 . The apparatus of claim 79 , wherein the apparatus is configured to deactivate the wireless beacon in response to the ambient light sensor detecting a light level below the selected threshold.
