Abstract

Sulfanyl-tetrahydropyran-based compounds, pharmaceutical compositions comprising them, and methods of their use for the treatment of diseases and disorders such as diabetes and obesity are disclosed.

32 . A method of reducing blood glucose levels in a patient, which comprises administering to a patient in need thereof a therapeutically effective amount of (2S,3R,4R,5S,6R)-2-[4-chloro-3-(4-ethoxy-benzyl)-phenyl]-6-methylsulfanyl-tetrahydro-pyran-3,4,5-triol:

or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof.
