Abstract

A first substrate includes a first insulating substrate. A first organic insulating film is arranged on the first substrate in a circumference area outside an active area. The first organic insulating film includes a first surface and a first concave portion in the circumference area. A second substrate includes a second insulating substrate. A circumference color filter is laminated on a circumference shield layer and includes a second concave portion arranged facing the first concave portion. The second concave portion spreads toward the first substrate. A second organic insulating film covers the circumference color filter and includes a second surface and a third concave portion covering the second concave portion. A seal material is arranged between the first surface and the second surface, and between the first concave portion and the third concave portion to attach the first substrate and the second substrate.

Claims (50)

1. A display device, comprising:

a first substrate including:

a first insulating substrate,

a first organic layer arranged in a peripheral area outside an active area displaying images, the first organic layer including a first surface and a first groove portion in the peripheral area, and

an insulating film between the first insulating substrate and the first organic layer in the peripheral area;

a second substrate including:

a second insulating substrate,

a shield layer arranged above the second insulating substrate facing the first substrate in the peripheral area, and

a second organic layer arranged above the shield layer facing the first substrate in the peripheral area, the second organic layer including a second surface and a second groove portion arranged facing the first groove portion in the peripheral area; and

a seal material arranged between the first surface and the second surface and between the first groove portion and the second groove portion to attach the first substrate and the second substrate,

wherein the second groove portion penetrates to the shield layer, and

wherein the first groove portion penetrates to the insulating film.

2. The display device according to claim 1 , wherein the second groove portion spreads toward the first substrate.

3. The display device according to claim 1 , wherein the first groove portion spreads toward the second substrate.

4. The display device according to claim 1 , wherein a spacer is arranged between the first substrate and the second substrate in a position in which a first end portion of the first insulating substrate overlaps with a second end portion of the second substrate.

5. The display device according to claim 1 , wherein the seal material extends to a position in which a first end portion of the first insulating substrate overlaps with a second end portion of the second substrate.

6. The display device according to claim 1 , wherein

the second substrate has a rectangular shape with a pair of long sides and a pair of short sides, and

the second groove portion is formed along at least one long side or short side of the second substrate.

7. The display device according to claim 6 , wherein the second groove portion is formed along four sides of the second substrate.

8. The display device according to claim 1 , wherein the second organic layer is a color filter.

9. The display device according to claim 1 , further comprising a third organic layer covering the second organic layer and the second groove portion.

10. The display device according to claim 9 , wherein a third groove portion is formed in the third organic layer in a region in which the third organic layer covers the second organic layer.

11. The display device according to claim 1 , wherein a first width of the first groove portion on a side of the first insulating substrate is smaller than a second width of the second groove portion on a side of the shield layer.

12. The display device according to claim 9 , wherein the third organic layer directly contacts the shield layer in the second groove portion.

13. A display device, comprising:

a first substrate including:

a first insulating substrate,

a first organic layer arranged in a peripheral area outside an active area displaying images, the first organic layer including a first surface and a first groove portion in the peripheral area, and

an insulating film disposed between the first insulating substrate and the first organic layer in the peripheral area;

a second substrate including:

a second insulating substrate,

a shield layer arranged above the second insulating substrate facing the first substrate in the peripheral area, and

a second organic layer arranged above the shield layer facing the first substrate in the peripheral area, the second organic layer including a second surface and a second groove portion arranged opposing the first groove portion in the peripheral area; and

a seal material arranged between the first surface and the second surface and between the first groove portion and the second groove portion to attach the first substrate and the second substrate,

wherein the second groove portion penetrates to the shield layer, and

wherein the first groove portion penetrates to the insulating film.

14. A display device, comprising:

a first substrate including:

a first insulating substrate,

a first organic layer arranged in a peripheral area outside an active area displaying images, the first organic layer including a first surface and a first groove portion in the peripheral area, and

an insulating film disposed between the first insulating substrate and the first organic layer in the peripheral area;

a second substrate including:

a second insulating substrate,

a shield layer arranged above the second insulating substrate facing the first substrate in the peripheral area, and

a second organic layer arranged above the shield layer facing the first substrate in the peripheral area, the second organic layer including a second surface and a second groove portion arranged facing the first groove portion in the peripheral area; and

a seal material arranged between the first surface and the second surface and between the first groove portion and the second groove portion to attach the first substrate and the second substrate,

wherein the second groove portion penetrates to the shield layer,

wherein the second groove portion is separated from the second insulating substrate by the shield layer, and

wherein the first groove portion penetrates to the insulating film.
