Abstract

According to one embodiment, an absorbent article to be worn about a wearer has a front portion and a back portion. The absorbent article includes an outer layer, an inner layer that is substantially co-extensive with the outer layer, an absorbent layer and one or more fasteners, which are located on the back portion of the absorbent article. The absorbent layer is interposed between the outer layer and the inner layer to form the absorbent article. The outer layer has a central portion between two side portions. The central portion of the outer layer is treated with a chemical to substantially inhibit attachment of the one or more fasteners to the central portion of the outer layer. The one or more fasteners secure the back portion to the outer layer of the front portion. Specifically, the one or more fasteners are configured to secure the back portion to a region of the outer layer which is not treated with the chemical.

Claims (15)

1. An absorbent article to be worn by a user, the absorbent article comprising:

an outer layer having at least one attachment portion and at least one non-attachment portion;

an inner layer substantially co-extensive with the outer layer;

an absorbent layer interposed between the outer layer and the inner layer;

at least one fastener adapted for securing the absorbent article to the user; and

wherein the non-attachment portion comprises at least one chemically-treated portion and an untreated portion, the at least one chemically-treated portion inhibiting attachment of the at least one fastener to the at least one chemically-treated portion.

2. The absorbent article of claim 1 , wherein the chemical comprises at least one of acrylics, vinyls, urethanes, epoxies, fluorocarbon polymers and silicone binders.

3. The absorbent article of claim 1 , wherein the chemical includes a colorant for visually indicating if the absorbent article is properly-fitted.

4. The absorbent article of claim 1 , wherein the non-attachment portion is located on a central portion of the outer layer.

5. The absorbent article of claim 1 , wherein the non-attachment portion comprises two chemically-treated portions with the untreated portion therebetween.

6. The absorbent article of claim 1 , wherein the outer layer is a non-woven, liquid-impervious material.

7. The absorbent article of claim 1 , wherein the inner layer is a non-woven, permeable material.

8. The absorbent article of claim 7 , wherein the inner layer is treated with a hydrophilic finish to improve pass-through of liquids.

9. The absorbent article of claim 1 , wherein the absorbent layer is positioned between the outer layer and the inner layer and is comprised of materials suitable for absorbing bodily fluids and discharge.

10. The absorbent article of claim 1 , wherein the not-attachment portion is provided on a front portion of the inner layer.
