Surface disinfectant with residual biocidal property
A disinfectant formulation comprising a polymer binder and a biocidal compound, having a residual biocidal property. The polymer binder is an oxazoline homopolymer or an extended or a modified polymer based on an oxazoline homopolymer. The disinfectant formulation may further comprise a surfactant, a pH adjusting agent, and a solvent.
1. A disinfectant formulation comprising:
0.2 weight % to 3 weight % based on the weight of the disinfectant formulation of an oxazoline homopolymer having a structure of:
wherein
R 1 is hydroxyl,
R 2 is hydroxyl,
R 3 is alkyl,
n is in a range of 10 to 1,000,000;
0.2 weight % to 4 weight % of a quaternary ammonium compound having a structure of:
wherein
R 1 is methyl;
R 2 is C 8 -C 12 alkyl, or benzyl;
R 3 is methyl;
R 4 is C 8 -C 16 alkyl;
X − , an anion, is Cl; and
a surfactant in a range of 0.01 weight % to 1.5 weight % based on the weight of the disinfectant formulation,
a pH adjusting agent in a range of 0.01 weight % to 10 weight % based on the weight of the disinfectant formulation,
glycol ether in a range of 1 weight % to 10 weight % based on the weight of the disinfectant formulation, and
water in a range of 0 weight % to 98.6 weight % based on the weight of the disinfectant formulation.
2. The disinfectant formulation according to claim 1 , wherein the oxazoline homopolymer is prepared with a monomer of ethyloxazoline.
3. The disinfectant formulation according to claim 1 , wherein the surfactant is nonionic.
4. The disinfectant formulation according to claim 3 , wherein the nonionic surfactant is an ethoxylated alcohol.
5. The disinfectant formulation according to claim 1 , wherein the surfactant is an amine oxide.
6. The disinfectant formulation according to claim 1 , wherein the disinfectant formulation imparts a residual biocidal property to a surface.
