Abstract

The archery arrow having improved flight characteristics of the present invention is designed to improve the accuracy of the arrow which is equipped with a dampening medium within the central bore of the arrow shaft. The dampening materials in an embodiment may include, but not be limited to, silicon, epoxies or urethanes and selection of various dampening materials may provide for varying degrees of stiffness. The dampening effects of internal dampening materials decrease the initial deflection distance of the arrow and also serves to decrease the deflection with each oscillation. In addition, the dampening medium adopted in the present invention provides for an arrow having a selectable center of gravity location that has improved flight characteristics. Thus, the dampening materials adopted in the present invention provide for a selected location of center of gravity and a desired attnuation of oscillations.

Claims (33)

1. An archery arrow having improved flight characteristics comprising:

an arrow shaft having a length and an outer diameter and formed with a central lumen;

a point attached to a first end of said arrow shaft;

a nock attached to a second end of said arrow shaft; and

a dampening insert inserted within said central lumen along said length of said arrow shaft, wherein said dampening insert is spatially disparate from said point and said nock.

2. The archer arrow of claim 1 , wherein said dampening insert comprises a dampening material.

3. The archery arrow of claim 1 , wherein said dampening insert comprises a plurality of dampening materials.

4. The archery arrow of claim 3 , wherein said plurality of dampening materials are all dissimilar.

5. The archery arrow of claim 1 , further comprising a second dampening insert.

6. The archery arrow of claim 5 , wherein said second dampening insert comprises a dampening material.

7. The archery arrow of claim 6 , wherein said second dampening insert comprises a plurality of dampening materials.

8. The archery arrow of claim 7 , wherein said plurality of dampening materials are all dissimilar.

9. The archery arrow of claim 8 , wherein said dampening insert and said second dampening insert are dissimilar.

10. The archery arrow of claim 8 , wherein said dampening insert and said second dampening insert are the same.

11. An archery arrow having improved flight characteristics comprising:

an arrow shaft having a length and an outer diameter and formed with a central lumen;

a point attached to a first end of said arrow shaft;

a nock attached to a second end of said arrow shaft;

a first dampening insert inserted within said central lumen along said length of said arrow shaft, wherein said first dampening insert is spatially disparate from said point and nock; and

a second dampening insert inserted within said central lumen along said length of said arrow shaft, wherein said second damping insert is spatially disparate from said point and said nock.

12. The archery arrow of claim 11 , wherein said first dampening insert is made of a first dampening material.

13. The archery arrow of claim 12 , wherein said second dampening insert is made of a second dampening material.

14. The archery arrow of claim 13 , wherein said first dampening material and said second dampening material are dissimilar.

15. The archery arrow of claim 11 , wherein said first dampening insert comprises a plurality of dampening materials.

16. The archery arrow of claim 15 , wherein said second dampening insert comprises a plurality of dampening materials.

17. The archery arrow of claim 16 , wherein said first dampening insert and said second dampening insert are dissimilar.

18. An archery arrow having improved flight characteristics comprising:

an arrow shaft having a length and an outer diameter and formed with a central lumen;

a point attached to a first end of said arrow shaft;

a nock attached to a second end of said arrow shaft; and

a plurality of dampening inserts inserted within said central lumen along said length of said arrow shaft, wherein said plurality of dampening inserts are spatially disparate from said point and said nock.

19. The archery arrow of claim 18 , wherein said plurality of dampening inserts are each placed at different locations along said length of said shaft within said lumen.

20. The archery arrow of claim 18 , wherein said plurality of dampening inserts is each made of a different dampening material.
