Abstract

Techniques for mobile device personalization are described. In an embodiment, user credentials for an online service are received at a mobile device kiosk. The user credentials may be authenticated and, upon authentication, user data associated with the user credentials may be transferred to a mobile device of the mobile device kiosk. The user data may be transferred between the mobile device kiosk and a wireless transmitter embedded on a printed circuit board (PCB) of the mobile device. Further, the user data may be transferred to the mobile device without powering on the mobile device. Once the data transfer is complete, the mobile device may be provided to a user.

Claims (32)

1. A computer-implemented method, comprising:

receiving authentication credentials for an account associated with a user at a social networking site;

accessing the account at the social networking site using the authentication credentials and receiving user profile information associated with the user from the social networking site;

transferring the user profile information to a mobile device at a mobile device kiosk, the user profile information being transferred between the mobile device kiosk and a wireless receiver in the mobile device configured to receive the user profile information regardless of a power state of the mobile device and to communicate the received user profile information to a non-volatile memory of the mobile device, the mobile device being pre-configured to allow the user to access the account at the social networking site; and

providing the mobile device to the user.

2. The computer-implemented method of claim 1 , wherein the wireless receiver comprises one or more of a radio frequency identification (RFID) module, a near field communication (NFC) module, a WI-FI module, or a Wi-Fi direct module.

3. The computer implemented method of claim 1 , the user data transferred to the mobile device without powering on the mobile device.

4. The computer-implemented method of claim 1 , the user data including an initialization flag used to instruct the mobile device to populate a memory of the mobile device with user profile information upon powering on the mobile device.

The computer-implemented method of claim 4 , the profile information including one or more of authentication data for a user account, photos, contact information for members of a social graph, login information for one or more services, browsing history, bookmarks, preferences, or advertising data.

6. The computer-implemented method of claim 1 , the wireless receiver configured to communicate with the non-volatile memory over an inter-integrated circuit (I2C) bus.

7. The computer-implemented method of claim 1 , the user data including a virtual subscriber identity module (VSIM).

8. A system, comprising:

a mobile device kiosk, the mobile device kiosk including:

an input device for receiving authentication credentials for an account associated with a user at a social networking site;

a network connection for accessing the account at the social networking site and receiving user profile information associated with the user from the social networking site;

a wireless transmitter configured to communicate the user profile information to a wireless receiver in a mobile device configured to receive the user profile information regardless of a power state of the mobile device and to communicate the received user profile information to a non-volatile memory of the mobile device, the mobile device being pre-configured to allow the user to access the account at the social networking site based on the received user a profile information, the wireless transmitter further configured to, upon authentication with the authentication server, transfer the user profile information to the mobile device of the mobile device kiosk.

9. The system method of claim 8 , wherein the wireless transmitter and the wireless receiver comprise one or more of a radio frequency identification (RFID) module, a near field communication (NFC) module, a WI-FI module, or a Wi-Fi direct module.

10. The system of claim 8 , the user data transferred from the mobile device kiosk to the mobile device without powering on the mobile device.

11. The system of claim 8 , the user data including an initialization flag used to instruct the mobile device to populate a memory of the mobile device with user profile information upon powering on the mobile device.

12. The system of claim 11 , the profile information including one or more of authentication data for a user account, photos, contact information for members of a social graph, login information for one or more services, browsing history, bookmarks, preferences, or advertising data.

13. The system of claim 8 , the wireless receiver configured to communicate with the non-volatile memory over an inter-integrated circuit (I2C) bus.

14. The system of claim 8 , the user data including a virtual subscriber identity module (VSIM).

15. A non-transitory computer-readable medium storing instructions that, when executed, cause one or more processors to:

receive authentication credentials for an account associated with a user at a social networking site;

access the account at the social networking site using the authentication credentials and receive user profile information from a social networking site associated with the user;

transfer the user profile information to a mobile device at a mobile device kiosk, the user profile information transferred between the mobile device kiosk and a wireless receiver in the mobile device configured to receive the user profile information regardless of a power state of the mobile device and to communicate the received user profile information to a non-volatile memory of the mobile device, the mobile device being pre-configured to allow the user to access the account at the social networking site based on the received user profile information; and

provide the mobile device to the user.

16. The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 15 , wherein the wireless receiver comprises one or more of a radio frequency identification (RFID) module, a near field communication (NFC) module, a WI-FI module, or a Wi-Fi direct module.

17. The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 15 , wherein the user data is transferred to the mobile device without powering on the mobile device.

18. The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 15 , the user data including an initialization flag used to instruct the mobile device to populate a memory of the mobile device with user profile information upon powering on the mobile device.

The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 18 , the profile information including one or more of authentication data for a user account, photos, contact information for members of a social graph, login information for one or more services, browsing history, bookmarks, preferences, or advertising data.

20. The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 15 , wherein the wireless receiver is configured to communicate with the non-volatile memory over an inter-integrated circuit (I2C) bus.
