Abstract

An address is received for an online asset. A metadata associated with the online asset is gotten. The metadata is used to match the online asset to a corresponding offline media asset.

Claims (40)

1. A method comprising:

receiving an address for an online media asset, the online media asset including at least one of audio or video;

receiving a metadata associated with the online media asset, wherein the metadata includes an asset attribute;

identifying whether the asset attribute is a strong signal attribute, wherein strong signal attributes include a list of cast or a list of crew; and

using the metadata at least in part by prioritizing strong signal attributes over weaker signal attributes to match the online media asset to a corresponding offline media asset, the offline media asset including at least one of audio or video.

2. The method of claim 1 , further including returning a pointer to the offline media asset.

3. The method of claim 2 , wherein the pointer is an ID field of a commercial database of media asset listings.

4. The method of claim 1 , wherein using the metadata to match a data association between the online media asset to a corresponding offline media asset includes using the metadata to match to a database record corresponding to the offline media asset.

5. The method of claim 4 , wherein the database record is part of a commercial database of media asset listings.

6. The method of claim 1 , wherein the online media asset and the corresponding offline media asset are each videos.

7. The method of claim 6 , wherein the videos are one or more of the following: televisions shows, television episodes, movies, television series, music videos, televised sports events, and televised events.

8. The method of claim 1 , further including:

retrieving a starting candidate list of series;

producing a set of match candidate episodes from the starting candidate list of series;

determining a subset of target episodes from the set of match candidate episodes; and

wherein the corresponding offline media asset is one of the subset of target episodes.

9. The method of claim 1 , wherein using the metadata to match includes matching on a video-to-target-episode pair basis.

10. The method of claim 9 , wherein the metadata is a video attribute of the online media asset and using the metadata to match includes matching the video attribute to a target episode attribute of the corresponding offline media asset.

11. The method of claim 10 , wherein a specific attribute may be ignored from a specific asset provider.

12. The method of claim 10 , further including: normalizing one or more of the following: the video attribute, the target episode attribute.

13. The method of claim 10 , further including: enriching one or more of the following: the video attribute, the target episode attribute.

14. The method of claim 1 , wherein using the metadata to match includes applying rules that reject or accept a match using a predicate and an attribute.

15. The method of claim 14 , wherein the predicate includes one or more of the following: a distance, an equality, a intersection, a similarity and a Levenshtein similarity.

16. The method of claim 15 , wherein the using of the distance includes interpreting play duration.

17. The method of claim 15 , wherein the using of the similarity includes interpreting Roman numerals.

18. The method of claim 14 , wherein rejection rules are applied before acceptance rules.

19. A system comprising:

a processor configured to:

receive an address for an online media asset, the online media asset including at least one of audio or video;

receive a metadata associated with the online media asset, wherein the metadata includes an asset attribute;

identify whether the asset attribute is a strong signal attribute, wherein strong signal attributes include a list of cast or a list of crew;

and

use the metadata at least in part by prioritizing strong signal attributes over weaker signal attributes to match the online media asset to a corresponding offline media asset, the offline media asset including at least one of audio or video;

and

a memory coupled to the processor and configured to provide the processor with instructions.

20. A tangible computer readable storage disk or storage device comprising computer instructions that, when executed, cause at least one processor to at least:

receiving an address for an online media asset, the online media asset including at least one of audio or video;

receiving a metadata associated with the online media asset, wherein the metadata includes an asset attribute;

identifying whether the asset attribute is a strong signal attribute, wherein strong signal attributes include a list of cast or a list of crew; and

using the metadata at least in part by prioritizing strong signal attributes over weaker signal attributes to match the online media asset to a corresponding offline media asset, the offline media asset including at least one of audio or video.
