Abstract

Techniques are described for accumulating data regarding the charging environment and power delivery efficiency at various regions in the environment under various transmission conditions. In some embodiments, this data may be utilized to generate efficient and sophisticated power transmission schedules; however, this data may also be leveraged for the manipulation of the standing waves within the environment. This allows for two discrete and powerful applications: creation of null zones and conversely the generation of high power regions. These regions may also be referred to as ‘power nulls’ and ‘energy balls’ respectively.

Claims (44)

1. A method of operating a retrodirective wireless power transmission system to modify energy at one or more physical locations within a multipath wireless power delivery environment, the method comprising:

generating a wireless power delivery schedule for sequentially providing wireless power to wireless power receiver clients within the multipath wireless power delivery environment;

identifying a virtual map of the multipath wireless power delivery environment;

identifying one or more energy modification regions on the virtual map; and

sequentially providing wireless power to the wireless power receiver clients according to the wireless power delivery schedule while concurrently modifying energy at the one or more physical locations within the multipath wireless power delivery environment corresponding to the one or more energy modification regions,

wherein the wireless power is provided to each wireless power delivery client over multiple wireless power delivery paths that constructively interfere at or near the particular wireless power delivery client.

2. The method of claim 1 , further comprising:

correlating the one or more energy modification regions on the virtual map to the respective one or more physical locations within the multipath wireless power delivery environment.

3. The method of claim 1 , wherein at least one of the one or more energy modification regions comprise a power null region having a relative reduction in power.

4. The method of claim 3 , wherein to relatively reduce the power in the power null region, the wireless power transmission system at least redirects or eliminates a wireless power delivery path traversing the power null region.

5. The method of claim 3 , wherein to relatively reduce the power in the power null region, the wireless power transmission system at least generates one or more radio frequency waves that destructively interfere with radio frequency waves emitted from the power null region.

6. The method of claim 1 , wherein at least one of the one or more energy modification regions comprises an energy ball region that is provided directed wireless power.

7. The method of claim 1 , wherein the wireless power delivery schedule is modified to include the energy ball region.

8. The method of claim 1 , wherein at least one of the one or more energy modification regions is determined by automatically detecting at least one of a parasitic device or a device sensitive to radio frequency signals.

9. The method of claim 1 , wherein at least one of the one or more energy modification regions is determined by user configuration.

10. The method of claim 1 , wherein at least one of the one or more energy modification regions is determined by automatically detecting at least one of a high priority device and a location where devices are often present.

11. The method of claim 1 , further comprising:

collecting data regarding power delivery efficiency at multiple locations within the multipath wireless power delivery environment under multiple transmission conditions; and

generating at least one virtual map of power delivery based on the collected data.

12. The method of claim 11 , wherein the multiple transmission conditions include multiple phase and amplitude settings for each of multiple antennas of the wireless power transmission system.

13. The method of claim 1 , wherein the at least one virtual map comprises a probabilistic map of likely radio frequency amplitude at each location within the environment.

14. An apparatus comprising:

one or more computer readable storage media; and

program instructions stored on the one or more computer readable storage media, wherein the program instruction, when executed by a processing system, direct the processing system to:

generate a wireless power delivery schedule for sequentially providing wireless power to wireless power receiver clients within a multipath wireless power delivery environment;

identify a virtual map of the multipath wireless power delivery environment;

identify one or more energy modification regions on the virtual map; and

sequentially provide wireless power to the wireless power receiver clients according to the wireless power delivery schedule while concurrently modifying energy at the one or more physical locations within the multipath wireless power delivery environment corresponding to the one or more energy modification regions,

wherein the wireless power is provided to each wireless power delivery client over multiple wireless power delivery paths that constructively interfere at or near the particular wireless power delivery client.

15. The apparatus of claim 14 , wherein at least one of the one or more energy modification regions comprise a power null region having a relative reduction in power.

16. The apparatus of claim 14 , wherein to relatively reduce the power in the power null region, the wireless power transmission system performs on or more of redirecting or eliminating one or more wireless power delivery paths traversing the power null region or generating one or more radio frequency waves that destructively interfere with radio frequency waves emitted from the power null region.

17. The apparatus of claim 14 , wherein at least one of the one or more energy modification regions comprises an energy ball region that is provided directed wireless power.

18. The apparatus of claim 14 , wherein at least one of the one or more energy modification regions is determined by one or more of automatically detecting at least one of a parasitic device or a device sensitive to radio frequency signals, by user configuration, or by automatically detecting at least one of a high priority device and a location where devices are often present.

19. The apparatus of claim 14 , wherein the program instruction, when executed by the processing system, further direct the processing system to:
