Abstract

According to certain aspects, a method can include receiving, in response to an indication that a data storage database is being restored to a second time before a first time such that the data storage database comprises a plurality of first archive file identifiers associated at the second time, a first instruction from a data storage computer, where the first instruction instructs a media agent to stop scheduled secondary storage operations associated with a deduplication database, and where the deduplication database comprises a plurality of second archive file identifiers; determining at least one second archive file identifier in the plurality of second archive file identifiers that does not correlate with any first archive identifier in the plurality of first archive file identifiers; and, for each of the at least one second archive identifier, instructing the deduplication database to prune an entry associated with the respective second archive file identifier.

a media agent executing on one or more computer processors and configured to:

request a first timestamp from the data storage computer, wherein the data storage computer comprises computer hardware configured to determine a first time, generate the first timestamp corresponding to the first time, and store the first timestamp in the data storage database;

receive the first timestamp from the data storage computer;

retrieve a second timestamp from a configuration file;

determine an expected current time based on the second timestamp;

compare the first time corresponding to the first timestamp with the expected current time; and

prune a deduplication database in response to a determination that the first time and the expected current time do not match.

2 . The networked information management system of claim 1 , wherein the media agent is further configured to request the first timestamp from the data storage computer when a secondary copy operation is scheduled.

3 . The networked information management system of claim 1 , wherein the media agent is further configured to request the first timestamp from the data storage computer when a secondary copy operation is complete.

4 . The networked information management system of claim 1 , wherein the data storage database is configured to store the first timestamp and an indication that the request was received from the media agent.

5 . The networked information management system of claim 1 , wherein the media agent is further configured to store the first timestamp in the configuration file.

6 . The networked information management system of claim 5 , wherein the media agent is further configured to:

request a third timestamp from the data storage computer after the request for the first timestamp, wherein the data storage computer is configured to determine a second time, generate the third timestamp corresponding to the second time, and store the third timestamp in the data storage database;

receive the third timestamp from the data storage computer;

retrieve the first timestamp from the configuration file;

determine a second expected current time based on the first timestamp;

compare the second time corresponding to the third timestamp with the second expected current time; and

prune the deduplication database in response to a determination that the second time and the second expected current time do not match.

7 . The networked information management system of claim 1 , wherein the media agent is further configured to decrement a reference count of one or more data blocks in the deduplication database in response to the determination that the first time and the expected current time do not match.

8 . A computer-implemented method for verifying synchronization of deduplication information, the computer-implemented method comprising:

requesting a first timestamp from a data storage computer, wherein the data storage computer is a replicated version of an original data storage computer;

receiving the first timestamp from the data storage computer, wherein the first timestamp corresponds to a first time;

retrieving a second timestamp from a configuration file;

determining an expected current time based on the second timestamp;

comparing the first time corresponding to the first timestamp with the expected current time; and

pruning a deduplication database in response to a determination that the first time and the expected current time do not match.

9 . The computer-implemented method of claim 8 , further comprising requesting the first timestamp from the data storage computer when a secondary copy operation is scheduled.

10 . The computer-implemented method of claim 8 , further comprising requesting the first timestamp from the data storage computer when a secondary copy operation is complete.

11 . The computer-implemented method of claim 8 , further comprising storing the first timestamp in the configuration file.

12 . The computer-implemented method of claim 11 , further comprising:

requesting a third timestamp from the data storage computer after requesting the first timestamp;

receiving the third timestamp from the data storage computer, wherein the third timestamp corresponds to a second time;

retrieving the first timestamp from the configuration file;

determining a second expected current time based on the first timestamp;

comparing the second time corresponding to the third timestamp with the second expected current time; and

pruning the deduplication database in response to a determination that the second time and the second expected current time do not match.

13 . The computer-implemented method of claim 8 , further comprising decrementing a reference count of one or more data blocks in the deduplication database in response to the determination that the first time and the expected current time do not match.

14 . A networked information management system configured to verify synchronization of deduplication information, the networked information management system comprising:

a storage manager database that is a replicated version of an original storage manager database;

a storage manager in communication with the storage manager database, wherein the storage manager is a replicated version of an original storage manager; and

a media agent executing on one or more computer processors and configured to:

request a first timestamp from the storage manager, wherein the storage manager comprises computer hardware configured to determine a first time, generate the first timestamp corresponding to the first time, and store the first timestamp in the storage manager database;

receive the first timestamp from the storage manager;

retrieve a second timestamp from a configuration file;

determine an expected current time based on the second timestamp;

compare the first time corresponding to the first timestamp with the expected current time; and

prune a deduplication database in response to a determination that the first time and the expected current time do not match.
