Abstract

A starting battery for use with an internal combustion engine including an electric starting system with a starter motor is provided. The starting battery includes a battery cell and a control system including a timer and configured to operate a starter motor of an internal combustion engine. The control system is configured to actuate the starter motor to start the internal combustion engine in response to a user input and deactivate the motor after a predetermined amount of time measured by the timer.

Claims (37)

1. A starting battery for use with an internal combustion engine including an electric starting system with a starter motor, comprising:

a battery cell;

a control system including a timer and configured to operate a starter motor of an internal combustion engine, wherein the control system is configured to:

actuate the starter motor to start the internal combustion engine in response to a user input; and

deactivate the motor after a predetermined amount of time measured by the timer; and

a battery housing, wherein the battery cell and the control system are located within the battery housing.

2. The starting battery of claim 1 , wherein the user input is provided by a key switch.

3. The starting battery of claim 1 , wherein the user input is provided by a push button.

4. The starting battery of claim 1 , wherein the user input is provided by a bail start system.

5. The starting battery of claim 1 , wherein the user input is provided by a trigger start system of a pressure washer.

6. The starting battery of claim 1 , further comprising:

a latch configured to secure the starting battery to a battery receiver.

7. The starting battery of claim 1 , further comprising:

a display for providing information to a user.

8. The starting battery of claim 1 , wherein the battery cell comprises a lithium-ion battery cell.

9. The starting battery of claim 1 , wherein the battery cell is one of a plurality of battery cells.

10. A starting battery for use with an internal combustion engine including an electric starting system with a starter motor, comprising:

a battery cell;

a control system configured to operate a starter motor of an internal combustion engine, wherein the control system is configured to:

actuate the starter motor to start the internal combustion engine in response to a user input; and

deactivate the motor upon receipt of an input from a speed sensor indicating that the internal combustion engine is running at a sufficient speed; and

a battery housing, wherein the battery cell and the control system are located within the battery housing.

11. The starting battery of claim 10 , wherein the user input is provided by a key switch.

12. The starting battery of claim 10 , wherein the user input is provided by a push button.

13. The starting battery of claim 10 , wherein the user input is provided by an automatic start system.

14. The starting battery of claim 10 , wherein the user input is provided by a bail start system.

15. The starting battery of claim 10 , wherein the user input is provided by a trigger start system of a pressure washer.

16. The starting battery of claim 10 , wherein the battery cell comprises a lithium-ion battery cell.

17. The starting battery of claim 10 , wherein the battery cell is one of a plurality of battery cells.

18. A starting battery for use with an internal combustion engine including an electric starting system with a starter motor, comprising:

a battery cell;

a control system configured to operate a starter motor of an internal combustion engine, wherein the control system is configured to:

actuate the starter motor to start the internal combustion engine in response to a start input; and

deactivate the motor upon receipt of a stop input; and

a battery housing, wherein the battery cell and the control system are located within the battery housing.

19. The starting battery of claim 18 , wherein the control system includes a timer and the stop input is provided by timer upon expiration of a predetermined amount of time.

20. The starting battery of claim 18 , wherein the stop input is provided by a speed sensor indicating that the internal combustion engine is running at a sufficient speed.
