Abstract

A nitric oxide delivery device including a valve assembly, a control module and a gas delivery mechanism is described. An exemplary gas delivery device includes a valve assembly with a valve and circuit including a memory, a processor and a transceiver in communication with the memory. The memory may include gas data such as gas identification, gas expiration and gas concentration. The transceiver on the circuit of the valve assembly may send wireless optical line-of-sight signals to communicate the gas data to a control module. Exemplary gas delivery mechanisms include a ventilator and a breathing circuit. Methods of administering gases containing nitric oxide are also described.

Claims (45)

1. A gas delivery system, comprising:

a cart having a receptacle configured to receive a gas source of therapeutic gas;

wherein the gas source has a valve transceiver;

a control module interconnected with the cart and having a processor;

wherein the cart includes a cover portion having a control module transceiver in communication with the control module;

wherein the control module transceiver is configured to receive from the valve transceiver gas data associated with the therapeutic gas;

wherein the gas data includes at least one of gas identification, gas expiration and gas concentration; and

wherein the processor is configured to control inflow of the therapeutic gas according to whether the gas data meets at least one predetermined criteria.

2. The gas delivery system of claim 1 wherein the processor is a CPU.

3. The gas delivery system of claim 2 wherein the therapeutic gas is nitric oxide.

4. The gas delivery system of claim 1 wherein the control module transceiver is disposed on a bottom side of the cover portion and the valve transceiver is disposed on an upper portion of the gas source, whereby when the gas source is disposed in the receptacle the control module transceiver and the valve transceiver are within line-of-sight of one another.

5. The gas delivery system of claim 4 wherein the control module transceiver and the valve transceiver are in two-way communication.

6. The gas delivery system of claim 5 wherein the control module transceiver and the valve transceiver communicate via wireless signals.

7. The gas delivery system of claim 5 wherein communication between the processor and the control module transceiver is made via a cable and/or wirelessly.

8. The gas delivery system of claim 1 , further comprising:

an injector module configured to couple to a breathing circuit affiliated with a ventilator placing the injector module in fluid communication with the ventilator, and the injector module being in electrical communication with the control module via wired connection and/or wireless connection.

9. A nitric oxide delivery system, comprising:

a cart having a receptacle configured to receive a source of nitric oxide;

wherein the nitric oxide source has a valve transceiver;

a control module interconnected with the cart via a bracket and being disposed at an upper portion of the cart;

the cart further having a cover portion in communication with the control module, wherein the cover portion has disposed on a lower side a control module transceiver;

wherein the control module transceiver is configured to receive gas data from the valve transceiver;

wherein the gas data includes at least one of gas identification, gas expiration and gas concentration; and

wherein the control module includes a processor configured to control the inflow of nitric oxide according to whether the gas data meets at least one predetermined criteria.

10. The gas delivery system of claim 9 wherein the valve transceiver is disposed on an upper portion of the gas source, whereby when the gas source is disposed in the receptacle the control module transceiver and the valve transceiver are within line-of-sight of one another.

11. The gas delivery system of claim 10 wherein the control module transceiver and the valve transceiver communicate via optical line-of-sight signals.

12. The gas delivery system of claim 9 , further comprising:

an injector module configured to couple to a breathing circuit affiliated with a ventilator placing the injector module in fluid communication with the ventilator, and the injector module being in electrical communication with the control module via wired connection and/or wireless connection.

13. The nitric oxide delivery system of claim 9 wherein the gas data includes at least two of gas identification, gas expiration and gas concentration.

14. The nitric oxide delivery system of claim 13 wherein the gas data is gas identification and gas expiration.

15. A nitric oxide delivery system, comprising:

a cart having a lower portion and a first and second receptacle, wherein the first receptacle is configured to receive a first source of nitric oxide and the second receptacle is configured to receive a second source of nitric oxide;

wherein the first nitric oxide source has a first valve transceiver and the second nitric oxide source has a second valve transceiver;

a control module interconnected with the cart via a bracket and being disposed at an upper portion of the cart;

the cart further having a cover portion in communication with the control module, wherein the cover portion has disposed on a lower side a first and second control module transceiver;

wherein the first control module transceiver is configured to communicate via optical line-of-sight signals with the first valve transceiver and receive gas data associated with the first nitric oxide source and the second control module control module transceiver is configured to communicate via optical line-of-sight signals with the second valve transceiver and receive gas data associated with the second nitric oxide source;

wherein the gas data includes at least one of gas identification, gas expiration and gas concentration; and

wherein the control module includes a processor that is configured to compare desired gas information stored on a control module memory to the gas data received from at least one of the first and second valve transceivers and control inflow of nitric oxide from the associated nitric oxide source according to whether at least one predetermined criteria is met.

16. The nitric oxide delivery system of claim 15 , further comprising:

an injector module configured to couple to a breathing circuit affiliated with a ventilator placing the injector module in fluid communication with the ventilator, and the injector module being in electrical communication with the control module via wired connection and/or wireless connection.

17. The nitric oxide delivery system of claim 16 wherein the gas data includes at least two of gas identification, gas expiration and gas concentration.

18. The nitric oxide delivery system of claim 15 wherein the gas data is gas identification and gas expiration.
