Abstract

Systems, methods, and apparatus are provided for automated identification of baseline data and changes in state in a wireless communications spectrum, by identifying sources of signal emission in the spectrum by automatically detecting signals, analyzing signals, comparing signal data to historical and reference data, creating corresponding signal profiles, and determining information about the baseline data and changes in state based upon the measured and analyzed data in near real time, which is stored on each apparatus or device and/or on a remote server computer that aggregates data from each apparatus or device.

Claims (41)

1 . A system for connecting a device to a network-based communication in an available channel, comprising:

a master device; and

a device;

wherein the master device has a master device identity (ID);

wherein the master device is operable to set a master list of available channels;

wherein the master device is further operable to generate a first channel token for a first available channel from the master list of available channels based on the master device ID, transmit the first channel token continually;

wherein the device is operable to read the first channel token, get a frequency, a bandwidth and a time slot in which to transmit based on the first channel token, and attempt to transmit and receive a signal to the master device over the first available channel for connection;

wherein the master device is operable to detect collision between the device and at least one other device on the first available channel; and

wherein the master device is operable to generate a second channel token for a second available channel for the device if a collision is detected.

2 . The system of claim 1 , wherein the master device is operable to access an external database.

3 . The system of claim 1 , wherein the master device includes a device sensing master and a master transmitter.

4 . The system of claim 3 , wherein the device sensing master is operable for device sensing, and wherein the master transmitter is operable for transmitting the channel token to the device.

5 . The system of claim 1 , wherein the available channel is a FCC-licensed channel.

6 . The system of claim 1 , wherein the master device includes a global positioning system (GPS) receiver, and the GPS receiver is operable to acquire a GPS location of the device.

7 . The system of claim 6 , wherein the master device further includes a display, and the master device is operable to show the GPS location of the device on the display.

8 . The system of claim 1 , wherein the master device is operable to update a device list when the device is connected.

9 . The system of claim 1 , wherein the device is in communication with a software defined radio, wherein the software defined radio is operable to receive information concerning the available channel.

10 . The system of claim 1 , wherein the device is operable to make a predetermined number of attempts to connect to the first available channel until obtaining the second channel token for the second available channel.

11 . A method for connecting a device to a network-based communication in an available channel, comprising:

a master device setting a master list of available channels;

the master device generating a first channel token for a first available channel from the master list of available channels based on the master device's ID;

the master device transmitting the first channel token continually;

the device reading the first channel token;

the device obtaining a frequency, a bandwidth and a time slot in which to transmit based on the first channel token;

the device attempting to transmit and receive a signal to the master device over the first available channel for connection;

the master device detecting collision between the device and at least one other device on the first available channel; and

the master device generating a second channel token for a second available channel for the device.

12 . The method of claim 11 , further comprising:

initiating a query for a list of available channels;

determining that the list of available channels from the query differs from a past list of available channels from a past query; and

updating the master list of available channels based on the list of available channels.

13 . The method of claim 11 , wherein the available channel is a FCC-licensed channel.

14 . The method of claim 11 , further comprising:

performing a real-time frequency scan; and

updating a channel model based on the real-time frequency scan.

15 . The method of claim 11 , further comprising displaying a GPS location of the device on a map.

16 . The method of claim 11 , wherein setting the master list of available channels includes obtaining at least a portion of a list of available channels from real-time scan.

17 . The method of claim 11 , further comprising the master device updating a device list.

18 . The method of claim 11 , wherein the device is in communication with a software defined radio, wherein the software defined radio is operable for receiving information concerning the available channel.

19 . The method of claim 11 , further comprising performing device sensing.

20 . The method of claim 11 , further comprising attempting to connect to the first available channel for a predetermined number of times.
