Abstract

A surgical table for supporting a patient over a floor and including a base assembly, a support column assembly and a patient support structure. The base assembly supported on the floor and including a first end, a second end opposite the first end, and a member extending along a base longitudinal axis between the first and second ends. The support column assembly moveably coupled with the base assembly and configured to translate between the first and second ends of the base assembly along the member extending therebetween, the support column assembly being the only support column assembly coupled with the base assembly. The patient support structure including a first end, a second end opposite the first end, and a longitudinal axis extending between the first and second ends, the second end of the patient support structure supported off of the support column assembly in a cantilevered fashion.

Claims (29)

1. A surgical table for supporting a patient over a floor, the table comprising:

a base assembly supported on the floor and comprising a first end, a second end opposite the first end, and a member extending between the first and second ends;

a pair of spaced apart support column assemblies that are each coupled with the base assembly, the support column assemblies each including an angulation assembly and a lift assembly; and

a patient support structure comprising a first end, a second end opposite the first end, an upper body portion, a lower body portion, and a hinge comprising an axis of rotation positioned between the first and second ends and coupling the upper and lower body portions, the second end of the patient support structure being coupled to the support column assemblies, the angulation assemblies being configured to angle the patient support structure relative to the floor, the lift assemblies being configured to raise and lower the patient support structure relative to the floor, the hinge configured to articulate the lower body portion relative to the upper body portion about the axis of rotation and into a flexed position and an extended position, the axis of rotation of the hinge configured to move towards the first end of the patient support structure when the lower body portion articulates into the flexed position and configured to move towards the second end of the patient support structure when the lower body portion articulates into the extended position, the upper body portion of the patient support structure remaining in a neutral position when the lower body portion articulates into the flexed position and the extended position,

wherein the support column assemblies are configured to translate relative the first and second ends of the base assembly along the member as the hinge articulates the lower body portion relative to the upper body portion between the flexed position and the extended position.

2. The surgical table of claim 1 , wherein a distance between the first end of the patient support structure and the hinge axis is greater when the lower body portion is in the extended position than when the lower body portion is in the flexed position.

3. The surgical table of claim 1 , wherein the lower body portion is coupled to the hinge, the hinge being configured to pivot and translate within a slot of the upper body portion.

4. The surgical table of claim 3 , wherein the lower body portion comprises an upper leg member pivotally coupled with a lower leg member at a lower leg hinge, the lower leg member being coupled to the hinge.

5. The surgical table of claim 4 , wherein the lower leg member is in sliding contact and is guided into the extended position and the flexed position via guide members coupled to the support column assemblies.

6. The surgical table of claim 1 , wherein the hinge is caused to move via a linkage assembly.

7. The surgical table of claim 6 , wherein the linkage assembly is driven by a motor.

The surgical table of claim 1 , wherein the support column assemblies are configured to translate from the first end of the base assembly to the second end of the base assembly along the member as the hinge articulates the lower body portion relative to the upper body portion between the flexed position and the extended position.

The surgical table of claim 1 , wherein the member extends from the first end of the base assembly to the second end of the base assembly along a longitudinal axis, the upper body portion extending parallel to the longitudinal axis as the hinge articulates the lower body portion relative to the upper body portion between the flexed position and the extended position.

The surgical table of claim 1 , wherein a track assembly extends from the base assembly, the track assembly comprising a pulley, a belt and a track, the pulley being rotatatably coupled with the belt and supported on the track, the pulley being coupled to a motor configured to rotate the pulley and the belt to translate the support column assembly relative the first and second ends of the base assembly.

11. The surgical table of claim 1 , wherein the support column assemblies are rotatably coupled to the base assembly by a slewing ring bearing that is driven by an electric linear actuator.

12. A surgical table for supporting a patient over a floor, the table comprising:

a base assembly supported on the floor and comprising a first end, a second end opposite the first end, and a member extending between the first and second ends;

a pair of spaced apart support column assemblies that are each coupled with the base assembly, the support column assemblies each including an angulation assembly and a lift assembly; and

a patient support structure comprising a first end, a second end opposite the first end, an upper body portion comprising a slot, and a lower body portion coupled with the upper body portion via a bearing shaft cooperating with the slot to form a hinge, the second end operably coupled to the support column assemblies, the angulation assemblies being configured to angle the patient support structure relative to the floor, the lift assemblies being configured to raise and lower the patient support structure relative to the floor, the bearing shaft configured to slide and translate within the slot to define a movable axis of rotation for the hinge, wherein translational movement of the bearing shaft within the slot shortens or lengthens a distance between the first end of the patient support structure and the movable axis of rotation,

wherein the support column assemblies are configured to translate relative the first and second ends of the base assembly along the member as the bearing shaft moves within the slot to shorten or lengthen the distance between the first end of the patient support structure and the movable axis of rotation.

13. The surgical table of claim 12 , wherein the lower body portion comprises an upper leg member pivotally coupled with a lower leg member, the bearing shaft coupled to the upper leg member.

14. The surgical table of claim 12 , wherein, when the lower body portion is in an extended position, the bearing shaft is in an aft position.

15. The surgical table of claim 12 , wherein, when the lower body portion is in a flexed position, the bearing shaft is in a fore position.

16. A surgical table comprising:

a base assembly supported on a floor and comprising opposite first and second ends and a member extending from the first end to the second end;

a pair of spaced apart support column assemblies that are each coupled with the base assembly, the support column assemblies each including an angulation assembly and a lift assembly; and

a patient support structure comprising a first end and a second end that is pivotable relative to the first end of the patient support structure about a hinge, the second end of the patient support structure being coupled to the support column assemblies, the angulation assemblies being configured to angle the patient support structure relative to the floor, the lift assemblies being configured to raise and lower the patient support structure relative to the floor,

wherein the support column assemblies are configured to translate relative the first and second ends of the base assembly along the member as the second end of the patient support structure pivots relative to the first end of the patient support structure.

17. The surgical table of claim 16 , wherein the member extends from the first end of the base assembly to the second end of the base assembly along a longitudinal axis, the first end of the patient support structure extending parallel to the longitudinal axis as the second end of the patient support structure pivots relative to the first end of the patient support structure.
