Abstract

A method, article of manufacture, and apparatus for processing data. In some embodiments, this includes analyzing a first container at a block level, determining a first level of granularity based on the analysis of the first container, based on the first level of granularity, identifying a first set of data objects, storing metadata of the first set of data objects in a recovery catalog, based on the first set of data objects, identifying a second container, analyzing the second container at a block level, determining a second level of granularity based on the analysis of the second container, based on the second level of granularity, identifying a second set of data objects, storing metadata of the second set of data objects in the recovery catalog, wherein the recovery catalog is stored in a storage device.

Claims (48)

1. A method for processing data, comprising:

obtaining, by one or more processors, an indication to catalog one or more backup images;

in response to obtaining the indication to catalog the one or more backup images,

analyzing, by one or more processors, one or more backup images at a block level;

determining, by one or more processors, one or more corresponding levels of granularity based at least in part on the analysis of the one or more backup images;

identifying, by one or more processors, one or more sets of data objects corresponding to the one or more backup images based at least in part on the one or more corresponding levels; and

storing, by one or more processors, metadata of the one or more sets of data objects in a recovery catalog, wherein the recovery catalog is stored in a storage device; and

performing a recovery of at least one of the one or more of the backup images, the performing the recovery comprising:

synthetizing a recovery backup image based at least in part on a set of data corresponding to a first one of the one or more backup images and a set of data corresponding to a second one of the one or more backup images,

wherein a file comprised in the recovery backup image comprises at least a segment recovered from the set of data corresponding to the first one of the one or more backup images and a segment recovered from the set of data corresponding to the second one of the one or more backup images.

2. The method of claim 1 , wherein the one or more corresponding levels of granularity includes one or more file systems.

3. The method of claim 1 , wherein a file type of a first data object included in one or more sets of data objects corresponds to a .zip file.

4. The method of claim 1 , wherein the one or more backup images includes backup data created by a backup application.

5. The method of claim 1 , wherein at least one of the one or more backup images is identified based at least in part on one or more data objects associated with a different backup image.

6. The method of claim 1 , wherein at least one of the corresponding levels of granularity is determined based at least in part on a fingerprint of a file system associated with the corresponding one or more backup images.

7. The method of claim 6 , wherein the fingerprint is based at least in part on a pattern for objects associated with the corresponding one or more backup images.

8. A system for processing data, comprising a storage device, and one or more processors configured to:

obtain an indication to catalog one or more backup images;

in response to obtaining the indication to catalog the one or more backup images,

analyze one or more backup images at a block level;

determine one or more corresponding levels of granularity based at least in part on the analysis of the one or more backup images;

identify one or more sets of data objects corresponding to the one or more backup images based at least in part on the one or more corresponding levels; and

store metadata of the one or more sets of data objects in a recovery catalog, wherein the recovery catalog is stored in the storage device; and

perform a recovery of at least one of the one or more of the backup images, to perform the recovery comprising:

synthetize a recovery backup image based at least in part on a set of data corresponding to a first one of the one or more backup images and a set of data corresponding to a second one of the one or more backup images,

wherein a file comprised in the recovery backup image comprises at least a segment recovered from the set of data corresponding to the first one of the one or more backup images and a segment recovered from the set of data corresponding to the second one of the one or more backup images.

9. The system of claim 8 , wherein the one or more corresponding levels of granularity includes one or more file systems.

10. The system of claim 8 , wherein a file type of a first data object included in said first set of data objects corresponds to a .zip file.

11. The system of claim 8 , wherein the one or more backup images includes backup data created by a backup application.

12. The system of claim 8 , wherein at least one of the one or more backup images is identified based at least in part on one or more data objects associated with a different backup image.

13. The system of claim 8 , wherein at least one of the corresponding levels of granularity is determined based at least in part on a fingerprint of a file system associated with the corresponding one or more backup images.

14. The system of claim 13 , wherein the fingerprint is based at least in part on a pattern for objects associated with the corresponding one or more backup images.

15. A computer program product for processing data, comprising a non-transitory computer usable medium having machine readable code embodied therein for:

obtaining, by one or more processors, an indication to catalog one or more backup images;

in response to obtaining the indication to catalog the one or more backup images,

analyzing, by one or more processors, one or more backup images at a block level;

determining, by one or more processors, one or more corresponding levels of granularity based at least in part on the analysis of the one or more backup images;

identifying, by one or more processors, one or more sets of data objects corresponding to the one or more backup images based at least in part on the one or more corresponding levels; and

storing, by one or more processors, metadata of the one or more sets of data objects in a recovery catalog, wherein the recovery catalog is stored in a storage device; and

performing a recovery of at least one of the one or more of the backup images, the performing the recovery comprising:

synthetizing a recovery backup image based at least in part on a set of data corresponding to a first one of the one or more backup images and a set of data corresponding to a second one of the one or more backup images,

wherein a file comprised in the recovery backup image comprises at least a segment recovered from the set of data corresponding to the first one of the one or more backup images and a segment recovered from the set of data corresponding to the second one of the one or more backup images.

16. The computer program product of claim 15 , wherein the one or more corresponding levels of granularity includes one or more file systems.

17. The computer program product of claim 15 , wherein a file type of a first data object included in one or more sets of data objects corresponds to a .zip file.

18. The computer program product of claim 15 , wherein the one or more backup images includes backup data created by a backup application.

19. The computer program product of claim 15 , wherein at least one of the one or more backup images is identified based at least in part on one or more data objects associated with a different backup image.

20. The computer program product of claim 15 , wherein at least one of the corresponding levels of granularity is determined based at least in part on a fingerprint of a file system associated with the corresponding one or more backup images.

21. The computer program product of claim 20 , wherein the fingerprint is based at least in part on a pattern for objects associated with the corresponding one or more backup images.
